Staying there right now. Decided to break up my Shanghai nights ... was planning to do all Le Royal Meridien, which is only 10 min away.

I checked in using a corp code (actually on business tho) but I will say I wasn't ID'd. They did ask for my business card and/or email address only..

I can also confirm it was 188 RMB from PVG to HOTB.

Here's my quick review of the place :

Location - depends on what you're looking for ... kind of a ways out from the middle of things, but if it's the Bund you are looking to walk around it's not a bad choice.

Lobby - warm doorman and very polite check-in folks. I liked the layout/decor/furniture/elevators (not like I did much here though).

Room - I got the tower to the right on the 12th floor. No status with Hyatt, so wasn't expecting much. Booked w/ corp rate, so King bed that gives free full bfast at Aroma. Nice bathroom, mirror, and vanity/mini-bar set up. A bit dim in the room, but I didn't mind. I like the rain showers quite a bit, especially the water pressure. Didn't like the light switches in my room as it took several pushes for it to turn off/on. Auto-curtains were clutch as this was my first night after the flight from US. Most firm bed I've ever slept on at a hotel (minus the Comfort Inn near Zion in Utah..)

Breakfast - I had a presentation to work on, so I spent at least 2 hours here. I tried basically everything offered. I would consider the selection average, but there is pretty much everything that you need. Dim sum was sub par, borderline pathetic. I've had better at home heating up frozen packages. Egg station was very good though. Service was adequate...they probably got tired of me after the first 120 minutes. Took a couple pieces of fruit to go.

Gym - very nice feel to it. Fairly open space, with many pieces of cardio equipment, a smith machine/squat rack, free weights up to ~60 lbs, and many other simple machines. In the back there was an open floor with kettlebells and the like. Wifi in there was solid. Got there at 5am local time so there was only 1 water bottle left. Got restocked at 6am.

Checkout - standard time is 12 noon to checkout. I called to ask to get this extended to 3pm as I'm moving onto another hotel for tomorrow. Was told 1pm was best they could do, or I could pay 1/2 day rate for 6pm late checkout. Is that common?

Final recommendation - my corp rate was under 750/night so this is a decent price and I would stay again for business.

Do Diamond suite upgrades usually end up with a "View on the Bund" Suite? (probably means at a higher floor)

You don't need higher floors for the view on the bund because the buildings obstructing your view are low.

Anything above the club lounge and you can view the bund already.

I haven't gotten a non bund view on a DSU yet, but YMMV

Actually asking for your business card is being ID'ed.

I emailed them and got this :

"We will only upgrade the room to our bund suite room, you will enjoy the city view in the room but not river view."

How should this be interpreted? A city view? Meaning a suite with low floor?

Thanks!

The hotel has two towers
either to left or right of the front desk when you enter the building. I suspect that would mean that your suite is located in the tower on the left.

I have never stayed in the tower on the left I can't comment on the view of said tower as I have always been on the right side.

Secondly, as per the practice of most hotels, they will state what you are entitled to in formal correspondence. I am pretty sure my suites don't have the bund view stated in them, but I am upgraded to that view upon check in.

If the bund view means so much to you, I would suggest asking how much of a top up you would need to pay to grantee the bund view.

For more information on the bund view is go back 1-2 pages and you can see the photos posted by several members.

I don't see how a Bund Suite doesn't have a view of the Bund.

Mine certainly did when I was there.

The south facing view from there captures all, while due east is boring by comparison.

Any tips for a family of 4 traveling to Shanghai. Looking to stay at Hyatt on the Bund. (Diamond Member).

2 adults and 2 kids (age 8 and 2). If I put 4 guests in one room, only Park Hyatt Shanghai is displayed at $2,500 USD per night. Definitely not willing to spend that amount per night. Not really keen on getting 2 rooms but will do if that is the only option.

We will be out exploring the city and won't be using the hotel extensively besides the breakfast and maybe lounge access.

Any experience with travelling 4 people (2 adults, 1 child and 1 toddler) in one room? Are Shanghai/Beijing Hyatt hotels strict?

We just stayed at the Hyatt on the Bund in a Bund Suite. It was huge and, space wise, could accommodate your family with a rollaway. You could use a DSU to upgrade to a suite here. Website says max of 3 in the suite, but perhaps if you contact the hotel directly and explain one is just a toddler, they will allow all of you.

Review: Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai (Bund Suite River View Twin)

Review: Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai (Bund Suite River View Twin) (23 Photos)

Hyatt On The Bund

I had a very enjoyable recent stay at Hyatt on the Bund, Shanghai. In particular, the fabulous 270-degree view of the Bund and Huangpu river from our suite was an unforgettable highlight of the trip.

I used a Diamond Suite Upgrade certificate to upgrade my reservation from a standard room to a Bund Suite. I contacted the hotel in advance by e-mail to enquire if it would be possible to have a suite with 2 twin beds (rather than a king bed). The hotel replied quickly, saying that they would endeavour to allocate a suite with two twin beds.

Check In

Photo of the lobby:

Diamond and Platinum members (as well as Club floor guests) can check-in and check-out in the Bund Club Lounge on the 3rd floor in the East Tower. Key card access is required to use the lift, so speak to a member of staff in the lobby and you will be escorted to the lift.

The associate at the front desk in the Bund Club Lounge was friendly and confirmed that we had been allocated a Bund Suite River View Twin in the East Tower.

As discussed in the hotel's master thread, the hotel consists of two towers - the West Tower and the East Tower (where the Bund Club Lounge and rooms are situated). Below is a photo of the hotel complex taken at night from the Bund (the building with the Shimao logo (the owner of the hotel) at the top is the West Tower and the building with the Hyatt logo at the top is the East Tower):

Bund Suite River View Twin

The suite was spacious (80 sqm). As you enter the suite, there is a walk-in closet to the left (through which you can access the bathroom) and the living room is right in front of you.

Some of the furniture (in particular the desk chair) were showing signs of wear.

There was a balcony outside the living room, but unfortunately the door was locked and so we could not access the balcony.

There are only two Bund Suites with twin beds in the hotel, so from the photo of the living room shown for the Bund Suite River View Twin on the hotel’s website (http://shanghaithebund.hyatt.com/en/hotel/rooms/suite.html), it would appear that the other suite with twin beds has been refurbished, whilst the one in which we stayed has not.

Another thing to note is that this suite is situated at the end of the corridor on the 13th floor. Before reaching the door to the suite, you have to pass through a door which is kept open in the corridor. However, this door can be shut to create an interconnecting room between the suite and the adjacent room (the door to which is opposite the door to the suite in the corridor).

Breakfast

As suite guests, we could have complimentary breakfast in the Aroma restaurant on the 2nd floor or in the Bund Club Lounge (Diamond members not staying a suite can have complimentary breakfast in the Bund Club Lounge only).

There was a good range of Chinese and Western food at the breakfast buffet in the Aroma restaurant, but the quality was a bit disappointing. The service was good. The breakfast buffet in Aroma runs from 6 to 10:30am.

Though not as extensive as the buffet in the Aroma restaurant, the selection of food at the breakfast buffet in the Bund Club Lounge was sufficient. Eggs were available made-to-order. There was also smoked salmon and cold cuts. The breakfast buffet in the Bund Club Lounge runs from 6:30am to 10:30am (weekdays)/11am (weekends). You can also take guests to the Bund Club Lounge for breakfast at a charge of RMB 150 (+16.6% service charge/tax) per person.

Bund Club Lounge

Service in the lounge was attentive and professional. Apart from breakfast mentioned above, from 5pm to 8pm evening cocktails are served. During this time, there is a buffet consisting of hot dishes and small bites. There is enough food for you to have an evening meal.

Location

The hotel is situated around 10 minutes by car from Shanghai Railway Station.

The hotel is situated between Tian Tong Road and International Cruise Terminal metro stations.

From Tian Tong Road metro station, leave from Exit 3 and walk eastwards (the road sign says W and E) along Tiantong Road for around 10 minutes. When you see Hyatt, turn right, then turn left when you reach Huangpu Road and you will see the entrance to the hotel on the left.

From International Cruise Terminal metro station, leave from Exit 3, walk westwards along Dongchangzhi Road, turn left at Lvshun Road, turn right at Dongdaming Road, then turn left at Qingpu Road. Walk along the road and you will see the hotel on the right. The walk from the station takes around 10-15 minutes.

Overall

Staying at the Hyatt on the Bund was a fantastic experience amazing view, great service and convenient location. I highly recommend the hotel.
