You CAN get MLife credits for Hyatt stays, but then you won't get any Hyatt credit. Don't do it. The Hyatt credit is far more valuable than MLife credit. Here's another FAQ from MLife: http://www.mgmresorts.com/hyatt/
I learned this lesson the hard way, as I tried to double dip at a Hyatt Regency. I got MLife tier credits, but no Hyatt stay/night credit or points.

Don't sweat having zero tier points; you're an MLife Plat so you'll get the MLife Plat benefits. If you gamble quite a bit at MLife casinos, that will give you better recognition within MLife.
While some report getting nothing, not even an early checkin, with a status match to MLife Plat, I've gotten quite a few perks as a matched MLife Plat. It probably depends on the hotel, front desk clerk, and the occupancy.

I think you'll quickly come to the conclusion, like me, that MLife tier credits aren't worth anything. Especially with the status match to MLife Platinum - that's all you need with tier credits.

As far as booking MLife rooms, I find that the cheapest rates are on MLife.com, logged in as a Plat. You can also get Virtuoso bookings which will include other benefits but I always just book through MLife.com. I also tend to hotel hop to get my stay count up since I barely scrape by as HGP Diamond every year.

I've always checked to make sure my HGP number is attached to MLife stays and ALWAYS get a receipt. Hang on to the receipt until you get HGP credit. It can be hit and miss to get HGP credit for MLife stays. There are quite a few posts that walk you through the process of getting credit if you didn't get it - you can't simply send the receipt to Hyatt; it has to be processed by MLife.

I agree with you and am much more interested in Hyatt points / status, and thanks for the simple explanation. It's mind-boggling that the FAQ does not distinguish between being able to double dip one direction but not the other. Seems like you tried this in person and found out the hard way. I can't see any distinction between them in the FAQ though.

No worries. The thing that tier credits do is get you to the next MLife tier.

Sapphire = starting level
Pearl = 25,000 tier credits
Gold = 75,000 tier credits
Platinum = 200,000 tier credits
Noir = Invite Only
http://newsroom.mgmresorts.com/mgm-r...fact-sheet.htm

If you're already MLife Platinum through status match, no need to accumulate additional tier points. For one thing, Noir isn't going to be offered to you unless you're spending big bucks at MLife properties, not Hyatt properties. I personally don't want to be Noir because (believe it or not) the room prices are higher for Noirs than Platinums on MLife's website - this has been tested with other Hyatt Diamonds; some were given Noir for the first year.

The advantage of Noir is free limo service to/from the airport. The rest of it is pretty much what you get as a Plat. For the room price savings, one can afford to pay for their ride to/from the airport.

By the way, MLife's tier credits and program status resets on 1 Oct every year. The first renewal year, they screwed up on my status and kicked me down to Sapphire. I got it changed back to Platinum and it hasn't been a problem since then; my status remained Platinum on 1 Oct this year. I'm just mentioning this in case it happens to someone else.

Edit: I just got an email from MLife telling me to Opt-in again on the Hyatt/MLife partnership to renew my MLife Platinum status. Fairly painless renewal, but make sure you opt in if you've been status matched this last year. http://hyatthotels.hyatt.com/content...mlife_hyatt_TM

NOIR is really only given to those who gamble a lot of money, which is why it's invite only. Unless you play a lot, just expect to only reach Platinum with mLife.

Noir also gets you guaranteed reservations (hotel, dining, shows) if that matters.

There was a subthread on room rates a little while ago; Gold and Platinum got the same rates, lower than other levels.
