Id be curious to see what you folks think of the offerings
It makes me want to run as far away as I can to about 100 other restaurants
Id argue the original Wall and Water was closer to being on the right track.
I had some marvelous seafood Alaskan Halibut at one point and the Mustard Caesar was quite special
Nothing eye catching for an Andaz or New York for that matter.

I feel bad for the chef
Hes highly creative and took a lot of time and research and effort to create something interesting but its comes off as contrived with the exception
of the kale salad the one thing that actually sounds really appealing ^

But this is New York and hes been handed a casual bar with tables after the elegant and appropriate Wall and Water was shuttered
rather than find a way to make the latter work.
If the direction remains poor as I see it I would suggest they should open a clone of the Shop from Andaz 5th Avenue
and serve the same exceptional nice lobster salads ,hot pastrami, pastas and the iconic fantastic lemon souffle pancakes in the morning
Dina cant even cook scrambled eggs, frittata or an omelet as good as a local diner. How can we reasonably expect them to pull of a good dinner?
The Shop simply buries them as does the Park Hyatt NYC Back Room at one 57 not the hotel but the restaurant to be clear

I had no idea. I guess it is good for a place using a bunsen burner and having one hand tied behind their backs. We have it so good here in Asia!

It stiff baffles me that Hyatt allowed then to close the once proud restaurant and cook food in the lobby on a hot plate and down grade the once impressive buffet to that of a Crowne Plaza with limited and lesser offerings
So odd especially for New York City one of the greatest culinary centers of the universe
And yes you are very lucky to be surrounded by premium Hyatt's with world class cooking and baking skills albeit at premium prices

It is unfathomable - this situation. Left with many head scratchers in New York.
A price I gladly pay because it's the way Hyatt should be the world over!

Lightbulb Andaz The Mini Bar Experience

How many are satisfied with the Andaz Mini bars?
Do you feel the beverages and snacks are good to your liking?
How does it compare to other hotels you visit other than Andaz
Sound off with your experiences Thank You

The free stuff at Andaz Tokyo is standard Japanese beverage fare. ito-en bottled tea, ito-en orange juice, a 355ml can of Coke, etc. It's fine but not inspiring. Japan has a lot of boutique juicemakers and unique products that would far suit a hotel of Andaz Tokyo's caliber. I feel like this is one area that the hotel decided to save money on. The senbei rice crackers, adzuki bean confectionary and Meiji chocolate bars are okay but once again Japan has a lot better stuff.

Shangri-la Tokyo gives better welcome snacks. Sometimes, a baked ginger bread cookie at Christmas or 3 bags of specialty senbei crackers. They even do treats for around Chinese New Year. Their fridge is better stocked with standard Japanese whiskey coolers, different types of waters, Wilkinson's ginger ale (from Australia) but not free.

I had recently stayed in a few W hotels and although they charge if not overcharge for everything.Though some items were free
Was really nice to have a mini bar with Perrier water and the most interesting amenities I have ever seen in a hotel.
Umbrellas, condoms tee shirts, toys and beautifully arranged like art on a cocktail table within the suite living room
It really enhanced our stay. Some of the accessories were so awesome in the room not meant for purchase I contacted the hotel where I could purchase these items for my home
I think they have ordered some for me.

I'm not sure we can get the attention of our community
but I wonder if Hyatt were to keep beverages/soft drinks free and charge for some of the more premium snacks
if it would motivate Hyatt to do some more creative stuff. Not talking cracker jack or other common bland stuff
Here is whats complimentary in one separate area and here is what we charge for
In Maui for example my stay was fantastic but the mini bar depressing
One step away from Nutri Grain bars

What I will say for Hyatt is that they're usually very generous to me with the welcome points and Diamond amenity. Andaz Tokyo does amazing Diamond amenity eclairs, artisanal in-house chocolates and seasonal Japanese treats. I think the minibar could use some improvement but it never bothered me enough to rant about it on the Andaz Tokyo thread .

Marriott on the other hand gave me 2 bite sized Valrhona chocolates and the worst tasting macarons ever. Nothing was free at their minibar either.

I had a couple of stays at the AMS Andaz last month. The staff is Over-the-Top good. So friendly, so efficient....so DUTCH (even though it was obviously a mix of nationalities). Always helpful, always anticipating guests' needs. Truly remarkable.

I recently stayed at the Andaz Weho and the duty manager came out to meet me and give me her card. She offered to escort us to the room but I politely declined as it was late and unnecessary.

We stayed there shortly after opening and I recall the whole "We're not part of Hyatt GP" play they tried back then. This time they made a point of welcoming us as Diamonds, and explain all of the associated benefits. In fact I secured upgrades to the the best available room (not suite) in advance for all of our non suite rooms so they have clearly improved their attitude.
