I have to wonder if this property will find the same sordid fate as the HR Dearborn.

A joint venture that includes an affiliate of Driftwood Hospitality Management LLC, a North Palm Beach hotel management company, is under contract to acquire the Hyatt Regency Tampa.

While Dearborn is a long shot ( too old, too big ), the Regency Tampa would be a very solid AAA 3-4 Diamond chain hotel, if you are willing to invest some money.

Glad to read the new company is willing to work with the current staff as in my stay they all seemed really upbeat & friendly and it added to the overall positive experience.

Great downtown location but I'll miss it as HR in future stays to TPA.

Unhappy Alas, Hyatt no more...

Alas, this property will be a Hyatt no more

As we all have feared, it has been confirmed... as of today, the official hotel web site has a banner reading:

"Hyatt Regency Tampa will no longer be a Hyatt-managed property as of 11:59 p.m. EST on Dec 17, 2012"

This will be a great loss to the Downtown Tampa area, and for Events at the TBT Forum.

Hyatt's footprint in Florida keeps tumbling down, with in the past 12 month properties dumping the Hyatt brand.

Hotel Victor - South Beach

Hyatt Bonaventure Resort and Spa - Weston

Hyatt Regency - Tampa

The selection of Hyatt's in South/East Florida is disappointing...

Agreed.... though I fear it is not just a downturn in FL. Hyatt!'s primary footprint in many cities seems to headed toward the HP route

I hope the Grand Hyatt Tampa doesn't end up re-flagging--I've enjoyed this property and can't wait to see the room updates next April.

I had an email from Hyatt last week indicating that my reservation at the downtown Tampa Hyatt in January would not qualify for Hyatt points or stays, but that the new owner would honor my rate. Hyatt says that after December 17, the hotel will be renamed the Hotel Tampa and managed by Hilton.

Yes what a shame. Eugh those HPs I would hate spending more than 2 nights in one of those!

I can't believe Hyatt no longer has a property on Miami Beach, it's really a shame!
