Post Hyatt workers in S.F. walk off the job

Hotel workers at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco have walked off their jobs this morning, according to union representatives.

About 400 workers are apparently using the hotel company's shareholder meeting in Chicago this week to highlight ongoing contract disagreements and walk off their jobs at the hotel at 5 Embarcadero Center about 6 a.m.

More walkouts and worker boycotts are expected this week at other Hyatt properties, according to Unite Here Local 2 spokesperson Riddhi Mehta.

There seems to be a hotel protest every day in San Francisco. Marriott, Starwood, and now Hyatt. What is going on there?

Summer visitors to SF are coming now, and this is the time for them to negotiate and demond their higher wages or insurances etc.

Stating this as objectively as possible:

Local 2 of Unite (the Hotel and Culinary Workers Union) has long been a very active and aggressive union:

And also, San Francisco has long been a hotbed of labor activism: a rare U.S. general strike was declared in 1934, with Harry Bridges of the Longshoreman's Union in the lead. The waterfront aspect of the strike spread throughout West Coast ports and caused significant changes.

This is just the way that hotel workers in SF get their exercize, they picket regularly. Hotels here always seem to keep operating despite this.
