Help a newbie out?
Hi all,
First time attempting to book a hotel using rewards (or open to regular discounted rates). Need a night in Amsterdam for a layover, I have 40k UR pts, 100k AA and 20k Amex. Appreciate any input on where I could go to find good rates? So far it's looking like booking with reward pts is bad value (appears to be <1 cent per pt).

I like
AA's sliding redemption scale-a combination of miles and $, for me, is preferable. For example, I had a free night at Tokyo Conrad and needed another-I recall using just 20K AA miles plus about $100.
You must move the sliding cursor from side to side to determine the ratio of miles to $. Any combination is possible.

If you do end up booking i would use Expedia plus Bigcrumbs as you get 4.8% Cashback for the hotels offering a discount as well as using a card such as chase sapphire for those 2 miles per dollar and also you get some Expedia miles too.

How about bidding for a hotel using Priceline's name-your-own-price option? Also check Hotwire's "Hot Rates."
