I found the escalators interesting in that we (my parent and I) got to see different neighbourhoods as we went up (not to mention being able to peek into peoples' back yards 
). Although we were turned off by the olfactory evidence in (neighborhoods that had lots of bars and such) that the staircases beside the escalators were sometimes used as outdoor urinals.
