Review: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tyumen (16 Photos)

DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tyumen

On arrival, we were welcomed by the front desk associate. Check-in was efficient. We handed over our passports (which were delivered around 20 minutes later to our room).

As the hotel had only been open a few months (it opened in April 2016), everything was new and in great condition. The hotel was previously Hotel Tyumen before it was refurbished and reflagged as a DoubleTree by Hilton hotel.

Room

As a Diamond member, I received an upgrade from a standard twin room to an Executive twin room on the top floor (9th floor).

There was a welcome letter, as well as some canapés.

Executive Lounge

The Executive Lounge is situated on the top floor (9th floor) and is open between 6:30am and 11pm daily. Access is by key card.

Although the Executive Lounge is not very big (it can only accommodate up to 16 people), during our stay we never encountered anyone else in the Executive Lounge. Thanks to its size, as well as its design, there was a homely and cosy feel in the Executive Lounge.

The entire seating area is captured in the following photo:

Evening cocktails and canapés are available from 7 to 10pm.

As of September 2016, the hotel’s website states that “Executive-level guests enjoy exclusive access to the hotel’s Executive Lounge, serving complimentary breakfast, drinks and snacks throughout the day plus private check-in and check-out.”

However, breakfast is not served in the Executive Lounge (instead you have to go to the Emerald restaurant). Outside evening cocktail hours, non-alcoholic drinks (water, soft drinks, tea and coffee) and snacks (nibbles and small slices of cake) are available.

The range of drinks and snacks available throughout the day:

Also, the Executive Lounge is not staffed and there is no reception, so you cannot check-in/check-out in there (you have to go to the front desk in the lobby on the ground floor).

Breakfast

As a Diamond member, the full buffet breakfast was available free of charge.

Breakfast is available in the Emerald restaurant between 6:30 and 10:30am daily.

The buffet had an impressive range of cooked and continental breakfast options, including eel, smoked salmon and white fish. It also featured some local breakfast food (such as buckwheat porridge). In addition, eggs were made to order.

Facilities

Unfortunately, at the time of my stay (September 2016), the indoor pool and spa facilities were not yet open.

The gym (situated on the ground floor and open 24/7) was, however, open.

Location

The hotel is very conveniently situated in the city centre of Tyumen. It is within walking distance of the main sights (for example, the Tura River embankment).

Overall

Service was generally good. The front desk staff spoke good English (though the English language skills of the Emerald restaurant staff were more limited).

I requested 6pm late check-out and this was granted without any hesitation by the front desk supervisor.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Tyumen. I would recommend this hotel.
