What is Turn Down Service?

Hi!
Reading posts saying goodies of Gold/Executive Level of Hotel....sorry to my silly question but...

1. What is Turn Down service?
2. Don't concierges are those in the lobby you asking for maps, directions or putting luggage there? Where is he/she in the executive floor and what can he/she do for a guest?

Thanks!

Turn down is where they fold back the bedspread and sheets a bit uncovering the pillows and usually leave a mint or chocolate on the bed.

Depending on the hotel, the conseirge on the Executive Level:
- is more knowledgable.
- has more seniority at the hotel.
- can provide more personalized service.
- can make dining reservations, even to hot restaurants.
- can check customers into and out of the hotel, e.g. allows you to bypass long Check-in Counter lines.
- can arrange for you to receive your favorite newspaper at your room.

Turn down can also include "freshening" the room with new towels. It really depends on the establishment.

I didn't realize the concierge on the Executive Floor could check people in. Many hotels require that you have a special room key to insert into the elevator to get to this floor - so I'm wondering how this works. What am I missing?

JerryFF,

It's confusing, but there is an explanation. For example at the Palmer House in Chicago, there IS a separate express elevator for the exec. floor. That requires a special key.

However, you can get right there on one of the standard, slower elevators. The door opens to a sort of "second lobby" where you're met with someone ready to check you in, or answer any questions you may have. Past that is the lounge and rest of the floor.

They're like a cross between a Walmart Greeter and a bouncer. (Kidding-- very friendly, helpful folks.)

What is it?

It is a knock on the door! Yes.

Do you want turndown service? No, thank you!

Do you want a chocolate? No, thank you!

Good Nite!

Turndown:

Diamond HHonors member walks up to check-in... Do you have an upgrade? Upgrade, no.

Can I get my breakfast coupons that I am supposed to receive... No, Have not heard of that policy, we don't do that here.

See ya, I am going to Sheraton where they do not turn me down for something that should be automatic.

I thought Turn Down Service is when you were due for an upgrade and you were turned down.

Some funny one-liners here, but seriously:

Some Hiltons have restricted access to the Executive Floors, some don't. At some hotels, you can get a key to the Exec Lounge floor by asking the Conseirge for one. At some, that is a non-no. It really depends on the hotel property.

BTW, I'm thinking only of U.S. Hiltons. I don't know about ones outside the U.S.

OH! The TURNDOWN service at the desk is so automatic, that I didn't consider it.

I thought this string was about the optional nitey nite service. Never mind!

While we're on this topic, does anyone ever tip the concierge on the Executive Floor?

What for? I never ask for anything.

Now if someone delivered breakfast, just the way I want it......

Thanks alot!

Hum.. I think I don't have the service at the "exec" floor at london hiltonS I tried but surpirisingly, last time I check-in at Regent Singapore with Tour agent rate and not a member, they privde this service with a Fruit plate at second night!

Also, this "turn down" service also did at many "3-star" hotels I stayed in Mainland CHina..
Humm...

(well, no chocolate for me )
