That's not a source of confusion for me. I was just curious about the true nature of the relationship between Red Lion and Hilton. Red Lion clearly identifies itself as "A proud member of the Hilton family of fine hotels" yet seems to more of in-law than a blood relative. It's just seems to be a rather confusing partnership.

They've now expended their info on the Red Lion Club, and it looks like there are bonus HHonors miles to be earned.

It appears that after 12 nights at Red Lion properties, you can qualify for either:

A Free Night Stay Certificate at any Red Lion location, or
1,000 frequent flyer bonus miles with one of our participating airlines, or
A $50 U.S. Savings Bond, or
5,000 Hilton HHonors® bonus points.

That seems to be the only way to earn Hhonors points... strange tho there doesn't seem to be any mention of RL on the Hhonors site.

Will Red Lion be added to Hilton HHonors?

Does anyone know if and/or when Red Lion properties will be added to the HHonors program? The Hilton reservation agents are now suggesting availability at Red Lion properties when nearby Hiltons are full, but apparently they are not yet part of the Hilton HHonors program.

I checked into Red Lion at Denver Airport last week for first time ever...was told Red Lion would never join because b/c of their own program...what a waste of a stay!

I would like to know too. I hope they are DoubleTrees that have refused to participate in the HHonors Program. They could take the Reno Hilton too.

Hilton did not "sell off" their gambling properties. Less than two years ago the Hilton Corporation split iself into the hotel operation now known as Hilton Hotels Corporation and the more profitable gambling
entity ( which is the largest gambling corporation the the world) Park Place Entertainment. Shareholders of the original Hilton stock got shares in both companies and Hilton is still the largest shareholder in Park Place.
The Park Places' affiliation with Caesars Place came after when they bought the casinos from Starwood.
it is interesting that Park Place/Hilton controls 3 of the 4 corners of Las Vegas Blvd and Flamingo the most important intersection in LV

My guess is that Hilton will rid itself of the DoubleTree's that are in esperate need of remodeling. 90% of the Red Lions are motel-dumps and I've seen a few DT's that do not deserve the moniker.

Name me a few jewels of the Red Lion chain. I'd be interested in checking them out.

This PR explains which DT's are part of the deal... looks like two in Portland, one each in Pasco, Boise and Missoula.

Stephen,

You got me. I was trying to be fair since I haven't been to all of the REd Lion locations. I'm go out on a limb and say you're right...100% of them are Motel 5's

The two Portland locations dropping out of the Hilton family (since there are 4 DT's in PDX) are:

Portland/Columbia River
Jantzen Beach

These two facilities are in serious need of remodeling and are the two oldest DoubleTree properties in Portland. I won't miss them.
