Conrad Punta del Este Resort & Casino {URY} (no longer Honors)

I noticed that Uruguay is no longer on the drop down lists for "Reservations," "Find a Hotel" or "Check Rates" on the Hilton website. Does anybody know if this no longer a Hilton family property or is it just another little problem with the new website?

I have stayed several times at the Conrad Punta del Este but never on an award...

I like the hotel -- it's quite a scene, has the only US$ casino in town, and is considered THE place to stay in Punta...

What info are you looking for ?
(I recommend the place.)

Joh and I are flying to Uruguay in a week or so. Have no idea where we will go or where we will stay, so be interested in the input there too.

The hotel is a good place. It is the best place in Punta Del Este, but if you go there your sure to notice what I noticed-It's bigger than it needs to be. They have huge ballrooms for conventions or celebrations that I have never seen occur their.

As for food, it is very good. The price is decent for a Conrad, but selection suffers as they only have a couple restaurants inside and some of them are only seasonal. The Casino is decent too, it has a fair amount of slots and the tables are only busy at night, but you can always sit down.

The beach is close too, you must leave the hotel and cross the street but from there you'll have plenty of access to clean swimming.

The hotel faces the beach also, which means no room has a bad view, and they all have balconies. If you go their as a HH Gold/Diamond let me know if they give you an upgrade or any perk, including breakfast-I haven't got any.

Glen, make sure you go to Casa Pueblo, take a drive around both La Mansa and La Brava, and eat "churros" at Manolo's.

Besides renting a car or flying, what other forms of transportation (trains, bus, boat?) would one recommend to get from Montevideo to Punta del Este?

We got to Punta del Este from Montevideo on a day bus tour. I am sure there is scheduled bus service between the towns.

where in Montevideo did you depart from? cost? time of travel?

edited to add: found below while surfing on the website http://www.visit-uruguay.com

FROM MONTEVIDEO TO PUNTA DEL ESTE
By bus
The bus service in Uruguay is very good. Two bus companies operate between Montevideo and Punta del Este, COT and COPSA. Buses depart from the Tres Cruces terminal in Montevideo and stop by the airport to pick up arriving passengers. Both companies have offices at the Tres Cruces terminal and at Montevideo airport. You must buy your ticket before you get on the bus (price: U$S 7). The trip to Punta del Este is 140 km and takes approx. 2 hours and 15 minutes from the Tres Cruces terminal and 1 hour and 45 minutes from the airport. Passengers are dropped off at the Punta del Este bus terminal, which is at Avenida Gorlero and Calle 32, in the center of Punta del Este. There is a cafe in the terminal, public telephones and a taxi rank.
Bus timetables: The Tres Cruces web site has all the bus timetables. To find your bus time, click on "Horarios y destinos" ("timetables and destinations"), and select your town of departure (e.g. Montevideo) and the town you wish to travel to. You will then be presented with the bus timetables.

Tres Cruces website: http://www.trescruces.com.uy/

Book a direct transfer
If you do not wish to take a bus, taxi or rent a car, we can arrange a private transfer from Montevideo airport to your hotel, to Punta del Este or Piriápolis or anywhere else in Uruguay. A private transfer company picks you up, for example, at the airport (there will be somebody waiting to meet you in the arrivals lounge) and drives you straight to your destination. If you are interested in this service, please send us an email* with your requirements. Examples of prices are around U$S 30 to 40 from the airport to your hotel in Montevideo center and around U$S 100 from Montevideo airport to Punta del Este.

Rent a car
If you wish to rent a car during your stay, the companies below will be able to help you. If you wish to pick up your car as soon as you arrive in Uruguay, both companies have offices at Montevideo airport. I saw that Thrifty and Avis are at Montevideo airport as well.

Red Multicar
Calle Colonia 1227
Montevideo
Tel. +598-2-9022555
As well as an office at Montevideo airport, they also have offices in Punta del Este, Colonia, Piriápolis, La Paloma as well as a number of other towns in Uruguay

They also have offices in Punta del Este and Paysandú, as well as offices at Montevideo and Punta del Este airports.

The public buses that run between the cities are fine for transportation. I can't remember the exact cost but it was not much. The Punta Del Este bus terminal is fairly close to the Conrad, although we took a cab because of luggage one could walk if I remember.
The bus makes a few stops along the way but about 2.5 hours to MVD city and if you get off at Carrasco (the airport) it takes maybe 2 hours from Punta Del Este. They run frequently and are comfortable modern busses.
