Hilton Rhodes in Greece..comments??

Hi Folks,

I'm planning to go to Greece for my honeymoon in July 2002. I was looking at the Hilton Rhodes as a possibility, specially with my HHonors points. Is it a Premium property?

If anyone had stayed there, I would appreciate the feedback. Lokking forward to read your comments!
Thanks!

Hilton in Rhodos

Hello folks!

I'm going to Greece for my honeymoon in July of 2002 and I'm planning to use some of my HHonors points for a 6 nights stay at the Hilton resort in Rhodos Greece. I was wondering if anyone here had a chance to stay there and give me some feedback on it.

Looking forward to read your comments.
Thx!
Super Larry!

Conrgatulations Super Larry - must be something in the water - I'm getting married on Aug 3rd and travelling to the Med also. I'm planning to stay in the Hilton Malta for a week or so during that time. Might be worth a look for you & your good wife also ?

I think you might have a spelling mistake there - should be the Hilton RhodEs ?
Don't have any info myself, so good luck !

Hi John,

Well, I'm glad to find out I'm not alone to make this "somehow" crazy move next year! Congratulations to you as well! By August 3rd, I'll be back in Montreal..and even worst, back at work! So no chance of having dinner somewhere in the Egean Sea...If you ever come this way (Montreal) let me know, I'll be glad to show you around

Take care!

I believe the spelling Rhodos is used in Greece. Therefore, it is acutally correct.

Super Larry,

If I'm ever over that way, I'll certainly look you up !

jukebox,

Thanks for the info - didn't know that. By the way, like the pun on the word " acutally", actually.

Well Folks, My family is from Rhodes(English). I've been there 15 times and I'm not finished going. Rodos(Greek) is what I consider my second home. I will retire there eventually. Rhodos(German) will be a very memorable honeymoon...Congrats!

Having answered those questions....

The Hilton property there is owned by the Capsis family as of 4 yrs ago. They are notorious for not following corporate rules, so be careful. You can plan from here all you want but when you arrive be prepared to get something totaly different. My recomendation is simple. Have a couple 10's and 20's(US$) ready. Give them to key people in the establishment. This will get you further than anything you do ovr the phone. Hopefully by saving the room charge and having all those wedding gifts this will not be so horrible.

Let me know if you have any opther questions about the trip. Wish I was going. Good luck.

Rhodes Hilton in Rhodes, Greece

Hi. I am going to Rhodes for a week and was looking to hear about experiences you had at the hotel. I am particularly interested in any upgrades for Diamond members. I would also like to know how you got to the hotel. I am flying into Rhodes city and the hotel is in Ixira. Thanks in advance

If you do a search there was some information about this hotel at the beginning of the year. Unfortunately, I have never stayed there, but am intrigued by the area, and am interested in any information also. I did notice on the Hilton website that it is only an "Executive" level and had many point stretcher dates available, which I was surprised about in a resort-type hotel.

Sorry, no answers. Just another question: has anyone tried one of the ferries to get from the mainland or did you all fly?

I can't speak in specifics because I never stayed in the Rhodes Hilton, actually I never even saw the Hilton in Rhodes when I was there. I'm not sure if what exactly you are going for in your trip to Rhodes, but if you don't terribly mind staying european style (shared bathrooms) I would recommend staying in the Old City. It has much, much more atmosphere and is in easy walking distance to the beaches/casinos/new town.

As to ferries. I travelled the Greek Isles exclusively by ferry. As a poor college student studying abroad, this was the only economical viable option for me. Ferry rides were some of the most enjoyable aspects of travelling the isles for me. There was something very idyllic about sitting up on deck writing in my journal looking out into oblivion. The longer ferry rides can get a little harrowing though. The trip to Rhodes (if I remember right) was about 14 hours. Quite a trip. Cabins on the ferries are reasonably comfortable. There is also a kitsch value to curling up on any spare corner of space with a blanket and attempting to sleep.

If you two have any specific questions about things to do on Rhodes, in Athens, or the other Greek Isles (I've been to several of them), let me know. I loved Greece, and I like to live vicariously through those who are heading over there.

Yamas to that!

Edited because I suddenly remembered that there is such a thing as proper grammar.
