We are leaving for a week on Oahu in a few days. We are staying at the Marriott Courtyard in Waikiki. Is it feasible to take a cab to Pearl Harbour on a weekday? If so, how long should I figure on it taking?

I see you can now book tickets for the Arizona ahead of time online. Do I understand correctly that the time for the ticket is the time you go to the movie and that you are shuttled to the monument after the movie?

Thanks.

Yes, you can cab it. It's only 11 miles but allow for traffic at all times. I would budget an hour travel time just in case. H-1 can be crazy all day.

If you are considering a cab, why don't you just book a Pearl Harbor escorted tour? They will bundle ticket to PH attractions and transportation to from Waikiki. Several options if you search the web.

Yes, time on ticket is time you go to see movie and then after one rides the boat out to Arizona Memorial.

Or compromise and take cab out and bus back. (The transfer would permit a stop at Ala Moana's food court on the way back. Um! Um! )

Day trip to Pearl Harbor

Going to be in Maui in a couple of weeks and would like to take a day trip to Pearl Harbor. Which tour group would be recommended or would we be better off just doing everything ourself? Thanks for the help!

Do it yourself and buy your tickets online. All you pay is a handling fee and you can set the time you want to go...

I'm on the same boat, going to Honolulu this Friday, did my research, and if you want to book a tour and want to have everything arranged for you, there is this one that looks "complete":

The Complete Pearl Harbor Experience

http://www.discoverhawaiitours.com/t...harbor_2a.html

It's longish, a whole day tour.

A few years ago my son and I went from Maui to Pearl Harbor for the day. A very memorable experience. We were staying in Lahaina area, so caught a flight from West Maui airport, which was an experience itself riding the smaller commuter plane. Took a taxi to Pearl Harbor, then toured the memorial, Missouri and sub museum. Only downside was that we had to leave before dark, as the small planes don't fly at night. Still, a great day.

I'm looking for a private 1/2 day guide of Pearl Harbor. Can anyone recommend someone? Thank you.

I would check out on the web some of the private car/limo companies in HNL area. Several of them offer private escorted tour service to the popular points of interest. Am sure you can arrange pick up, drop off locations, stops, and duration for most anything you want to do. Expect to pay $$$$ - hourly limo rates, tip, etc.

Sorry I cannot make a specific recommendation for a limo tour to Pearl Harbor. . . but, we have used private car/limo service to/from hotel/resort from Charlie's Taxi and Cloud 9 over the years. Both were no prob. Charlie's have been the best experiences (timeliness, drivers, etc) , but not sure if they do private tours. Check out their website. We have had only one bad experience with a company that didn't show up for our pick up at HNL and is no longer in business. No surprise.

Be careful with limo/private car services in HNL. There are lots of them. Some come and go, change names. . . and can be dicey.

Getting to/from Waikiki, bus/taxi, time

I haven't been to Pearl Harbor since 1981.

(1) Is taxi fare similar to fare to HNL? Also, how long should one plan to arrive for a tour time at X:00 (-45 mins, -60 mins, etc.)?
(2) What is the "latest" on bus routes/service, and fares. How long should it typically take?

(Not keen on a bus tour to/from even if it costs us what a RT taxi would cost.)

Mahalo!

The Memorial is further than the airport and therefore would cost more. This past Thur. we took a 42 from Waikiki at 7 am, arrived at 8:15 and were given (free) 10:15 tickets for the movie and launch to the Memorial. Just about enough time to see most of the exhibits. The 20 & 42 both go onto the Memorial grounds. To return you have to walk out to the main drag and walk about 100 feet to the left. The bus fare is $2.50 in exact change or a dollar if you show a medicare card. On a timely return, you can use a transfer. You can get bus schedules at the McDonalds up from the Hyatt. Coming from the mainland, it is convenient to go on the first day since you will be awake early and can take a really early bus. The Memorial opens at 7 am. We have always used TheBus to the Memorial.

Sure. I would reserve USS Arizona Memorial tickets in advance to be sure of availability. That's a long day. . . imho. Go for it! Have fun!

Wife and I were there last month. Arizona is very humbling. Bowfin is cool but if tight quarters bother you forget about it. The Missouri was the awesome. Plan on spending at least a good 2 hours as you can go all over the ship. We were on a tour where we flew from Maui and all the tickets were included so I'm not sure what the Missouri tour cost but well worth it.
