I've never been to New Zealand or Australia before, and am definitely looking forward to it. One week in Auckland is school related (and covering the cost of airfare). The rest is vacation.

Ouy Vey, what hassles with this itinerary. First SQ cancelled my original outbound flight, and moved me back a day (which completely messed up my domestic connections to LAX). Then my return domestic flight was also cancelled and that became a headache. Finally, TG sharply cut back on service to the US, which threatened but ultimately has not impacted (yet) my return trip.

Nice milestone birthday trip, WanderlustFL. I've spent three of my last four birthdays in Bali, starting with my 30th. That milestone was the reason for going the first time. The reason for going back was how much Mr. Megatop and I loved it. Enjoy!

Thanks MegatopLover. BTW, I read your trip report on your most recent Bali/Thailand/Singapore excursion. Wonderfully done. Sets a high standard for us all.

My partner has never been to Asia, and I only to Hong Kong for business. So we are very excited. I am a bit sad that we are only transiting through BKK as a brief stop on our way home. Eventually I would love to visit Thailand too.

You mentioned in that report you had stayed at the Chedi on your first visit to the island. Did you enjoy the hotel? How about Seminyak, did you enjoy that locale? Any other words of wisdom you care to share that you have not already documented in that report (Bali or Singapore)?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

We did stay at the Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah for my birthday in May 2006. We loved it. The service might even have been better there than at the FS Sayan, principally because our personal butlers were excellent-- perfectly attentive service without being overbearing and very thoughtful. Mr. Megatop mentioned it was my birthday to them when we were going out to dinner and they had a very nice surprise waiting for us when we got back. The property is beautiful and very quiet. If you get up early one morning with jetlag or something and the light is just right for photographs, snap 'em then, as the light might not be as good one another morning. (I made that mistake.) You may find the irrigation canal just outside the main gate interesting too. More generally, despite the distance, I would recommend going to Uluwatu Temple at the southern tip of Bali for sunset and a traditional Balinese dance-- the setting is spectacular. Just be prepared for how big a place Bali is and how long it can take to get around. Oh, and take the warnings about the theiving monkeys at Uluwatu seriously. Finally, I'd strongly encourage pre-booking a driver such as DewaMarco or his cousin.

In Singapore, it's all about food food food to me. And shopping. And pleasant archictecture. And cute boys-- especially if you like Asian boys in glasses. Gay bars and clubs are something we haven't really gotten the hang of there, as the spots we've hit have varied between creepy UFO expat joints and insular Singaporean places. I could use some recommendations on that point, actually.

Enjoy the trip! You have a lot to look forward to. Although Suvarnabhumi Airport won't give you much of a taste, I have a feeling BKK will be firmly planted on your "Next Destination" list.

Glad you liked my Trip Report. Hopefully it will be useful to you in planning, etc.
