19 AUG DTW-LAS DL 2316

A little tour of the Grand Canyon with friends. It'll be my first time. We're using Papillon to go from Vegas to the Grand Canyon. Has anyone tried them before?

As a result, I postponed my trip back by a couple of days.

One day in Montreal! So much to do, so little time.

Then finally:

I used them for a day trip to the Canyon a long time ago and they were great. At that time they had a small picnic lunch with champagne for everyone and then when we left the lights were just coming on over the trip and we got to see the strip lit up at night from the air. I had a great experience with them.

Don't you need a special visa to get into (and out of) North Korea? I thought North Korea was still a country Americans weren't allowed to visit?

Definitely interested to hear how this goes. I spent a year in South Korea while in the Army, back in 1991. My job was a Korean Linguist, and I can still understand most of the language. The closest I've been to North Korea was the conference room at Panmunjom.

Thanks. We're doing the plane+helicopter into the canyon+short boat ride+barbecue option. We'll see how it goes!

Americans certainly may visit North Korea, and a North Korean visa of course is necessary. The only practical way of doing this is to let a travel agency in Beijing arrange it all (it's not cheap!). The North Korean visa is handed out in Beijing and not stamped in the passport. One also has to arrive in Beijing a day early to attend a do/don't do session at the travel agency. I think the place is worth seeing first-hand, even though a guide is always (yes always) right next to you, at least during touristic visits, and foreign visitors are not allowed to wander around town alone. All sorts of group and individual tours can be arranged - with certain parts of the country and of Pyongyang off-limits. I'm looking forward to it and will submit a full report when I get back.
