Layover/stopover Frankfurt

Good morning. I am flying BHX to Moscow with an 8 hr stopover in Frankfurt.

Can anyone please help with these questions:

Can I leave the airport? (I was planning on doing a flying visit to Frankfurt for a beer and a meal)

Will my luggage go through to Moscow automatically or must I collect it at Frankfurt and put it back into the system- re check it in.

Any recommendations for places to visit for a meal in Frankfurt - vegetarian?

How long does it take from airport to Frankfurt centre.

How much time must I allow on way back into Frankfurt airport to get through passport control and security?

Thanks for any help.

Yes of course you can leave the airport. You are not trapped in there and coming from the UK you will have no problem entering a EU country (i.e. Germany).

Until Brexit truly takes effect of course, hahaha.

You left out a lot of critical information, but will try to help.

Are you are traveling under a UK passport?

Next and most important, are your flights on one ticket on the same airline? Or two separate tickets?

Once you are landside, it is extremely easy to get to centeral Frankfurt. You proceed to the underground "Regional Bahnhof" (at the front of Terminal 1) and buy a ticket for the S-Bahn train to Frankfurt. It only costs a few € and you will be in the center within 15 minutes.

Sorry, cannot help with the veg restaurant.

Good luck on your trip.

Better to move this thread to the Germany forum.

If both flights are on the same ticket, bags should go straight to Moscow.

Good. Bags will be checked at BHX all the way to Moscow, will not need to be touched at FRA.

Which airline? FRA has two terminals, not within walking distance of each other. If you arrive at T2, just take the bus or skyway tram to T1 to reach the regional train station.

As recommended, go to the city after arrival. There you will have plenty of vegetarian dining options.

The only airline which flies BHX-FRA and FRA-Moscow is Lufthansa which use T1.

Searching for "FRA layover" in this forum should find several threads with further links, e.g.:

I've left FRA many times during less of a stopover than that to go shopping downtown (I like the eterna shirt shop just off the Zeil). Get off at Hauptwache on the S-bahn/Metro rather than the main Hauptbahnhof. Hauptwache is one or two stops beyond the HBf.

Brexit gags notwithstanding, the in/out experience has been exactly the same with my non-EU Australian passport as with my non-Schengen UK passport.
