Just need a clarification on getting tier points. From my understanding, once you reach a tier (let's say Gold), it remains end of tracking period plus next 12 months. A new tracking period starts (which overlaps with those 12 months) and the tier balance resets to 0. Then you earn tier points from 0 as Gold tier with Gold tier bonus.

My question is what if I have already reached Platinum in the first 6 months and I still have a number of trips in the next 6 months before end of period. Does that mean they cannot be brought forward to be credited to the next tracking period? Does that also mean I should credit them to other OW FFP like AA?

Basically I am thinking if I need to get overall 300k tier points in a 24-month period, or 150k tier points in each 12-month period for platinum in both years. Otherwise i may end up with 1 year in platinum and 1 year in gold.

Worked last year for my coworker. Gold to silver while only having 21k points.

Climbing the tier ladder on AY is not like MCP. Going to Gold does not reset tracking period and does not reset the tier points. Tier points are reset at the end of the tracking period and the tracking period is fixed for ever.


You need 150k tier points each tracking period to keep platinum.

Yes that's exactly what I thought. My problem is my travel pattern is a bit unusual by year so under this scheme there is no way to sort of smooth out and equally spread the tier points across two tracking periods. Now I start to know how the game works.

You can't directly credit excess tier points from one period to the next. But you can exchange them at the end of the second period at 15000 to 5000. Then there is the unofficial soft landing policy.
