A350 options now firm orders

Finnair has firmed up the optional 8 A350s, with delivery set 2018-2023. Airbus has agreed to buy back Finnairs old A340s. This will not happen until 2016-2017, ie we will see OH-LQA, LQF, LQG flying almost 3 year more.

BTW, it seems that AY will phase out ALL A340s by 2017. The Airbus buyback is only for 4 of them, so I guess LQA/LQF/LQG isn't even sellable...

A preliminary schedule of changes in the widebody fleet. It is now said that 4 A350 will be delivered in H2 2015. With the target "one new destination each year" that leaves room for rapid phase out of the oldest A340s, depending on how quickly after delivery A350 can be put into service.

Code:
Year A350 A340 WB fleet	Comment
----- ---- ---- ------ -------
2015: +4 -3 16 LQA/LQF/LQG leaving? Perhaps not until 2016
2016: +3 -2 17 2 "new-J" A340 buyback by Airbus
2017: +4 -2 19 2 "new-J" A340 buyback by Airbus
2018: +1 20
... ...
... ...
2023: 27

LQA (former Virgin Atlantic) is probably leased too. That said the former santa claus bird is probably with so many cycles that it has no net worth any way other than spare parts. If you look at the production list you will see that only a handful of A340 older than LQA are in service.

I count to 20 older ones still in active use, even in some major known airlines like THY, QR(!) AF and RJ. Still, MSN 58 in a list of over 1100 says something.

planespotters.net claims it is leased from FAF (as opposed to LGF/LQG leased from ILFC)

MSN29 is flying short(er) flights for AF, the A342 for RJ are in the air because their 787 are late. The two A343 TK operates are certainly vintage pieces, I was on one of them last year, not very recommended

The Qatar A342 is a private jet of the Qatari Emir in QR colors, it never was a commercial airliner.

"Basic" customers flying with LQA don't even realise or know the real age of LQA. It was renewed about 2008 and been thru several heavy checks.

And it is flying almost every day HEL-SIN or SIN-HEL without delays so age is not a problem with aircrafts. They only get better.

Well, I have come to terms with LQA so no disagreement there.

I do wonder how quickly after entry of A350 the complaints will be heard of A330 "new-J"...

The real questions is: How quickly after entry of A350 the complaints will be heard of A350?...

Are 'we' arranging a DO on the first flight?
