JFK-AUH-NBO routing on google flights not bookable?

On google flights, I see RT JFK-AUH-NBO for less than $5k in F but etihad's website doesn't even show NBO in the drop down box (but is listed under destinations). Any idea how to book this?

Try multi-cities option

How does that work if I can't even choose NBO? In other words, can't even book AUH-NBO.

I was able to select NBO by using multi-city option.

This happens do many city pairs when EY has a published fare for the routing but the website somehow does not let you book it directly. Usually these city pairs involve either too many segments or is too much of a detour to make sense for most people. (e.g. NRT-JFK; LAX-AKL)

You can either call their reservation centre to book this or use the multi-segment tool and route is as AAA-AUH, AUH-BBB, BBB-AUH, AUH-AAA and it will usually price directly.

Then its just a website bug. The Reservation system would allow it and hence the pricing would be same, but the front end is not able to get this info from the underlining reservations.

It's because AUH-NBO is a 2 class route (with regional business on the A320). EY booking engine is lousy at handling multi class itineraries.
The fare should be available through Expedia/Orbitz.
