Which EK routes have ICE / New F/J seats

News

Emirates has now added a similar feature on its website.
^

New Guide: Completely Revamed May 2007

Emirates' fleet consists of the following planes:

Airbus A340-500
Airbus A340-300
Airbus A330-200

Boeing 777-200/ER
Boeing 777-300/ER
Boeing 777-300/ER ULR

How to tell if your aircraft will have ICE

First you need to know your aircaft type. This can be done quite easily. Simply visit the Emirates timetables pages located on their website, or click here enter your flight route and date and the aircraft type should show up.

Then...

i) All A340-500 (345) Boeing 777-300ER (77W) & Boeing 777-200 (772) planes have the ICE in flight entertainment system.

ii) If you are on a Boeing 777-300 (773) make a dummy (ficitious) reservation in First (for a 3 class plane) and Business (for a 2 class plane) on Emirates.com You will then be shown the seat map of your flight. If First has 2 rows, or Business Class has 6 rows, then your plane has ICE.

iii) No A310, A330 or A340-300 aircraft are currently fitted with ICE.

iv) B777-300 planes are currently being refitted with ICE, but the process will likely take some time.

***Remember - Aircraft changes very frequently happen, so this method does not guarantee that your plane will have ICE***

How to tell if your B777-300ER plane will have lie-flat seats

For routes that frequently receive the lie-flat J seats (thanks to Emirates777!)

To confirm whether your flight has the new lie-flat J seats (this only works for 3-class (low density) planes):

You need access to the KVS tool

i) Find your flight via any method (Sabre / Apollo are best)
ii) Bring up the economy class seatmap for your flight via the Worldspan method

Planes without the lie-flat J class will show:

Code:

The difference is that lie-flat J class planes have a row 23 in economy class, whereas non lie-flat planes do not.

If anyone has any corrections to make, please do so via PM or on this thread. Thanks!

Hope this helps

Happy flying!

Anyone know if there's any difference between the type of J seats on the A340-500 and those on the B777-300ER? I know that the B777-300ER F seats aren't as nice as the A340-500s.

Yes, the A340-500 ones are better although not by too much. They enjoy a similar seat pitch to the B777-300ER, but have privacy hoods, and massage in the seats. The 777-300ER ones are basically an "enhanced" version of the old business class - better pitch and recline but same seat

Cheers

Was on DXB-KUL the other day in J, on a 777-300ER two class flight with six rows in business (improved J product right?) and ICE, however was too tired to enjoy it at 03.30 am - hate these late flights as no proper dinner is served, and the breakfast was sadly nothing great!!

The pitch between rows was still imo terible, when seats in front of you are fully reclined, it is basically impossible to climb out from the window seat without waking your neighbour.

Yes the seat is better than on the A330 in J, but the seat pitch on the A330 is so much better, so it basically comes down what you prefer of the two i guess.

On saturdays the above flights are operated with a 777-200.

B777-300ER (ICE / Improved Business Class)

Business / Economy Only

As of October 1st 2005

DXB-GLA EK25
GLA-DXB EK26

Slightly OT... but the DXB-GLA-DXB route seems to be doing extremely well.. the reason to change from a 332 to a 77W I assume

Did the windows have wooden trim? If not, you were on the 777-200 (which regularly flies DXB-KUL-DXB) This has improved pitch in J, and ICE but the seat is the same - the 77W seat seems to recline slightly more, but it might just be me

Came off several EK J flights and, yes, the 777-300ER J seat is "substantially" better than any other EK 777s.

sadiqhassan: how are you able to discern which 777-200s have the improved J product vs. the older 777-200s?

Thankfully, EK has now reconfigured all 2 class 777-200's and most (if not all) of the 3 class ones.

This was received from EK on Jun 2nd 2005:

Dear Mr Sadiq,

Thank you for your enquiry.

At the moment upgrades for the ICE system have only just been completed on our Boeing 777-200 2 Class series. Work will commence on the other 777-200 series, however this is a gradual process, and unfortunately we are not able to advise which aircraft of the 3 class series will have the ICE system until it has been completed on all aircraft of this type.

Kind regards,

Emirates UK
Cheers

For the 3 - class 772's, you can make a dummy booking on emirates.com in First Class for your flight. Go to seat selection and if there are 2 rows of F, it is the new plane with ICE. If there are 3 rows, it has not been reconfigured.

Hope this helps.
Cheers

Would those "new and improved" 777-200s (with ICE) actually have "new and improved" seats (similar to the 777-300ERs)? Or, does "improved" seats simply reflect the row of seats they started removing from aircraft 2 or so years ago -- same seat, but with a bit more legroom? I avoid EK 777s (except 777-300ERs) if at all possible because of the uncomfortable seats, but am wondering if I can start booking them now!

Thanks
