No longer possible to increase weight of Econ class luggage from 23 to 32 kg for $50?
Flying from both the US and Canada to India in Y. In previous years, I could increase both of my two allowed bags from 23 to 32 kg for $50 each. However, the website makes no mention of this anymore as far as I can tell, but doesn't explicitly preclude it either. It does say that economy luggage flights TO the US can only be 23 kg max, which is a restriction that was not there before. Anyone have an idea of this option is still available?

Can't specifically answer your question but a quick look on the EK website and using the baggage calculator for a Y Saver ticket as a Skywards Blue member flying JFK-BOM as an example, allows an additional piece up to 23kg to be purchased at $158 if bought online/$175 at check in. Same for the return.
If if you have a current booking, go in to MMB and use the baggage calculator for a more accurate answer on what extra luggage you can pay for.
Hope this helps.

As a matter of fact, just yesterday at JFK, I checked-in with a bag weighing 27+ kgs (overweight) and a Graco Aire 3 Stroller + Click Connect Infant carseat (oversized) so I was expecting to pay $50 + $50 but the agent simply checked me without even bothering to look at the weight or size . So you may actually be in for a nice surprise depending on who you get at the counter.

I'm aware of the extra box for $175, however mathematically it still makes sense on a per kg basis to just do 9 kg for $50 if possible. And while I also never saw the upgrade option on the website (only at the counter, as mentioned), any citation for that on the website itself seems to have been scrubbed. But good you got those options recently, just wish the website had something I could refer to if they give any trouble!
