Emirates close to a 787-9 & 787-10 order

http://www.strategicaeroresearch.com...irates-787-10/

Emirates in on major the 787-10 Deal? Is EK will get 787-10? Did they recently cancelled the entire A350-900/1000 order?

Let the speculation begin.

I'm not sure why the OP needs to keep copying threads from airliners.net.

Because there are a lot of people who don't frequent airliners.net and instead choose flyertalk to partake in dialogue related to air travel. If the OP finds something interesting on another forum that he feels warrants sharing, let him be.

Terrible news for Economy passengers.

However, the OP is a little premature and nothing has been announced.

Requesting merge with existing thread, from same OP and same "source" : http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/emira...7-10-deal.html

It always is terrible news for Y pax on most airlines though

As you say, I don't think the order has actually been placed yet, but I think it would be a step in the right direction. Looking at EK's penalties for order cancellation/deferral last year, it was a total of 2bn AED - compare that to on future lease commitments of 31bn AED between 2-5 years out and there is scope for future cashflow savings there.

Better to be constrained by 100% LFs on smaller aircraft than fly empty planes about, I think!

Which airlines' 787s have you actually flown in Y?

Why the B787 fails the comfort test in economy

True, but the 787 has earned special hatred in many circles for the lack of space and comfort in Y.

I may be wrong, but I don't think any operator is currently using the 8-abreast configuration intended by Boeing - they've all gone for high density configurations, even Qatar Airways! So there is scant hope of EK using a more human configutation.

If you transferred from an A380 to a 787, you'd definitely notice the difference!!!

Don't expect to see Ms. Aniston appearing in future EK commercials venturing back to steerage in one of these planes...

Nothing is definite until the fat lady sings.

To Boeing this is just another add on order snatching the prize from it's rival.

To Airbus it's just not losing an order to a rival, but the potential death to the A380 program in general. EK are in the position to negotiate with Airbus once and for all to build the A380NEO, and we will honor our commitment to the project. Airbus could also get the A359 order included in the package with early slots immediately going to EK.

If Airbus fail to reach an agreement with EK it could very well be the end of the A380 program, and the official lauch of the 777-10 program for Boeing.

Going full swing with Boeing would need assurances from the American side of not punishing EK in the subsidy allegations.

I would beg to differ. Give me an EK 77W 10 abreast any day of the week over a 9 abreast 787.

Hm I'm surprised by this. I've only flown on QR on the 787 but heard very positive feedback as well about the ET 787 from friends, but if this is the case that it is truly not as nice...

I'd expect that EK would fit new slim seats with HD ICE, the only issue would be pitch and number of seats per row.

The only 787 I have flown on was a QR one. The last one resulted in 2 months of severe neck & back pain and 5 weeks of intensive Physio/acupuncture. That's how comfortable it was for me. Actively avoid them now. I would imagine that they're only comfortable in Y if you have the stature of an Irish Racing Jockey.
