If I was going right to work it would be different) That and especially the fact that each shower spa is also the bathroom just makes it impossible to let others in. Imagina paying for F and not having a bathroom avail cuz they were being used by biz class pax. It's not a "class" thing necessarily but you get what you pay for. If F didnt have the extra perks then no one would pay for it. Now if the showers and the toilets were in separate rooms I could see the occasional exception being made. But unfortunately the shower & the lavatory are in the same space so it's just not doable

How would J class passengers feel if they opened the rear stairs and allowed Y PAX to use the onboard lounge?
Or in my case last week, slept thru all my shower appts on the HKG>DXB>JFK (via MXP. Even this sector, they offered me a shower. Though i declined it in lieu of zzzzzzz) When I woke up, they offered to prep the shower asap for me if I wished.^

Has any EK J or F fliers had seen anyone try to sneak up the stairs in either the front or back stairways. Reason I asked is, on my flights last week, I saw some pax peeking up the F-stairs behind the ropes on 2 occasions when I went to the front lavatories by the F-bar. Perhaps in an attempt to "knick" a sandwich & the Hennessy Paradis bottle.

Climbing unnoticed the rear stairs would be difficult, as you'll end up in the J-galley.

As far as forward stairs are concerned, I've never seen non-F pax climbing (which doesn't mean it doesn't happen). But I've witnessed one strong argument between FA and Y-pax irritated by the long queue in front of Y-lavs, and asking to go up. I don't know how this guy knew that there were lavs upstairs. The doors are not visible from below.

It's not hard to figure that out!

You'd get collared by the shower spa attendant if you tried to go up the front stairs I think.

I have actually witnessed an arguement in Business Class where the passenger wanted to use the shower and was constantly told no.

They guy couldn't understand how as a Gold who give thousands of Dollars of business to EK why he would be allowed to use the shower. The purser did ask him how he would feel as a First passenger if they allowed people from other cabins using the facilities he had paid for.

That closed down the argument pretty quick!

I've always followed a pretty simple principle when it comes to travel classes and respective benefits : having paid for a ticket in first or business, I expect all the stated benefits (ie depending on the carrier involved) to be available if & when required, and for that availability to be protected and reserved exclusively for those in such classes. In similar vein, having paid for an economy class ticket, I expect nothing more than economy class facilities, and make no effort to take advantage of facilities dedicated for the use of pax travelling in higher cabins.

Frankly, I have never been able to understand those who adopt any other perspective

You are discounting the powerful infantilisation fields that exist around major airports - susceptible adults turn into bawling children who throw tantrums at any possible point, toys are thrown out of literal prams and the most frivolous frustrations (which have nothing to do with the travel experience at all in many cases) explode onto the nearest ground staff.

The latest "tales from the airport" I heard was an EK Y pax, Silver who was very angry he couldn't use the lounge (blah blah, loyal customer, used to be Gold - not very loyal eh? - spend $$$$ with EK why can't I use the lounge), was extremely rude and had to be escorted away by security. The amusing thing was that on the phone to his girlfriend: "they won't let me use the lounge, I don't know why, the staff is angry at me for no reason". Then proceeded to lick the glass as if performing (probably poor) fellatio in an attempt to I have no idea.

It never ceases to amaze that people do this to people who have:

* your passport details
* your address
* your contact numbers
* your entire flight itinerary and travel details

which can be brought up within 2 seconds and forwarded to the relevant people...

It's common on very long flights for parents to let their small children play on the stairs in front. I've seen it a million times and honestly, as long as they are not making noise then so what? Doesn't hurt anyone. When I see this I usually grab a bunch of chocolates and bring them down to the foot of the stairs for the kids. Strangely, not only are the children I've seen playing here very well behaved, but they seem to know there is an invisible force field that stops them from climbing more then 2-3 stairs . I assume the pursers tell the parents that they can stay there to let the kids stretch as long as they are quiet and dint go all the way up

As far as the comment from OP above about the shower attendants making sure no one comes up, perhaps that works on Europe or Asia flights where crews don't get breaks but on ultra long haul flights one attendant is usually on break during middle of flight and the other is usually back in the galley (unless they have shower appointments or are checking the stock in the bar or lav. Quite common for no one to be there (at least on flights to the US West Coast)

I'm totally on the same wavelength, eternal. I too am equally amazed.

Although ....... perhaps we shouldn't be quite so surprised.

In truth, there is no doubt a strong correlation between the infantile patterns of behaviour you describe ; and the likelihood that those exhibiting such behaviour lack the brainpower to realise that so much of their key data is so readily available.

As for CSA, they are usually standing around whenever someone is using the shower. Otherwise, they are often elsewhere (cleaning J-lavs, etc). That's for European routes.

Not just handing children sweets, how about when you see an adult waiting for the toilet you throw them a sandwich down or maybe pass them a bottle of Dom and pretend you are Father Christmas?

I DO THAT TOO!! Lately I've been taking sleeping F class passengers hand luggage and bringing that downstairs for the masses to pillage thru. They seem lo LOVE the woman's Louis Vuitton purses .

I've started my own EMIRATES CARES program just to make life a little better for housekeepers flying between S Asia and the US
