Question What do El Al and Matmid mean?

G'day

Just a quickkie as we say here in Oz...what does 'El Al' & 'Matmid' actually mean; in Hebrew I suspect?

Elal means skyward or upward.

Matmid means always, constantly, to persist.

Literally - "El" means to or towards and "Al" means above or over. So the combination of the words El-Al can mean a lot of things but the common thing that comes to mind is something like "to above" or "to the sky".

"Matmid" is a shortcut of the old name - "Hanose'aa Hamatmid" (הנוסע המתמיד)- which means - the constant (or persistent) traveller. Matmid itself is a verb for persistent behaviour.
