Shame that they canceled the initial order though I wonder if some form of delayed compensation, even though they canceled, was worked into a discount.
I believe they are buying 8 and leasing 7, with the option for 13 more.
Stupid that they would replace the 744s with the 787. Definitely they should replace the 767s with them, but they should have looked into the 77W to replace the 744. Unless they plan on packing the 787 even worse than some airlines do.
I'm still holding outside hope to see them go 1-2-1 C, 2-4-2 Y, and maybe improve Y+, either a la DL or a true Premium Economy. But then again, LY, so...
Why would they?

As to J, a 1-2-1 is entirely possible, it is the industry gold standard right now but also doesn't substantially reduce capacity compared to a 2-2-2 configuration due to the angle of the 1-2-1 seats.

AC fits 298 (!) in their 789s. A similar density above the Boeing config on the -10 would end up being about 350 passengers, its only a loss of ~50 seats to the current 744 config, at what I can only imagine is an operating cost 40+% less.
The only current route that would be a challenge would be LAX, but should not be a problem on a 789.

Many things may be bad about LY, but I generally find the Y seats to be comfortable even on the old planes. It would be a shame to see the new planes have great IFE and uncomfortable seats, but I suspect that's what we are in for. The good news is that it opens up the possibility for making other routes economical, like TLV-SFO.

look at thpicturesi posted,
in the pics with 3 aircrafts there is a-8,-9 and -10.
in the pic with the three flying, the first on the right is an -8, the top middle one is -10, and the left is -9.
in the pic wit the three on the ground, the right one is -10, the middle -9 and the left -8.
Count the windows from the wing forward or between doors 1 and 2
Yeah
i think the new destinations will be:
1. MIA first
2. ORD
3. SFO
4. GRU
5. EZE maybe
6. NRT if they can get the slots

Looks like they signed some sort of an LOI today, with a current intention of signing the deal by October 30th.
15 787-9s with an options for a further 13 787-10s.

they signed a LOI? I thought they signed one the last time, or perhaps it was just a "maybe uhhhh we'll buy some 78s!".
IMagine how much cheaper they'd have been with all the compensation Boeing had to cough up for delays if they had gotten their act together in the first place!
