And then drive over to Mello Cream?

I dream about the green chili macaroni at the Roaring Fork in Scottsdale, AZ.

Yes - right near 6th & Green. (Green Street being the main drag...) A few doors down from that old one-screen cinema.

It used to be a long narrow establishment, all very dark wood. It was a decidedly terrible place to watch sports on TV and you had to be 21 to enter, whereas most bars in Champaign were always 19 to get in. Both of those things made it a nice place to escape a bit...it simply drew a different crowd than your typical Champaign bar (Kam's, C.O.'s, etc.). Both the food and the beer selection was better there.

At some point in the past decade or so, it was totally refurbished and expanded to take over one or two adjacent businesses. I forget the exact decor, but it looks a lot more like a regular sportsbar now. The burgers are, however, still very good.

I remember Ghostbusters came and stayed for ages.

Ah, yes, the infamous Kam's. Lot of interesting stories I could share, but not sure it'd be kosher.

On a topical note, I still remember how good was the 'pizza special' at Giordano's right off of Green Street across from the Illini Union, with sausage, pepper, pepperoni, mushroom and onions! Mmmmm!

I had a group of friends I'd meet every Sunday night for dinner - we'd alternate between one of the two pizza joints right there and Zorba's, the Greek (sort of) place around the corner.

Hey, it is topical - I still occasionally dream of these places as they represent a previous, carefree life. I get back to Champaign once a year if I'm lucky, and I shake my head at how renovated and clean Green Street is. It feels sterile now. I liked it when it was grittier. A brand new Chipotle at 5th & Green? I'm sure they do outstanding business, but it just doesn't feel the same as getting La Bamba at 3AM.

At least Zorba's and Murphy's are still there.

Certain dishes I absolutely loved at various restaurants over the years.

"Coffee and doughnuts" at The French Laundry

Riccotta pancakes from SPQR

Black Truffle explosion from Alinea

Double-Double from In-N-Out

HAPPY JOES!! Thank you for reminding me... I always wanted to try to Barn Burner but I was too small and my mom wouldn't let me.

We had one in La Crosse and there was one in Decorah... Good times!!

Hashbrowns and over easy eggs at Dennys. Consistently delicious. Could do it every day but for my waistline.
