Yum

I haven't been to DEMARCHELIER in NY for a few years (no longer live nearby), but used to go all the time specifically for the French onion soup. It is the best I've ever had. Heavenly.

Gotta give some love to the FOS at Tradition by Pascal in Newport Beach, CA, about 5 miles from SNA.

My temperature guage on my car read 100 degress an hour ago. Probably the last thing on my wish list would be French onion soup.

Certainly no French Onion soup for me today as it is 99F here on Chicago's Near North Side. When I do partake, however, my favorites are from Balthazar (80 Spring St. NYC 10012 212 965 1785) and Parc (227 S.18th St. Philadelphia, PA 215 545 2262).

+1 to Balthazar in NYC.

Deca in the Ritz Carlton Chicago, a Four Seasons Hotel has a very good version.

My fondest memories of FOS in the US and Canada include:

La Cote Basque, NYC which sadly closed many years ago....
Swann Lounge, Four Seasons Philadelphia
Feenie's, Vancouver, also which has closed
Chartwell, Four Seasons Vancouver, also which has closed
Bouchon, Las Vegas ^

and my own which friends and family request me to make it regularly....

+2 on Balthazar. Also Les Halles had a very good one but I havent been there for years. I think Bourdin was probably still there when I went.

I had excellent French onion soup at Bartolotta's Lake Park Bistro during my visit to Milwaukee last month. Top marks for the whole meal!

La Baguette, Old Colorado City (Colorado Springs), CO - a bakery & lunch place, but their FOS is oh, so good

The Artichoke, downtown Albuquerque. Also makes a creme brulee to die for.
