It's been discussed multiple times but is there an official Delta Upgrade hierarchy?

Just wondering if Delta has a published protocal.

Questions. When two platinums are on the list who is on top? Amex Delta Reserve, highest MQM to date, or fare class?

Would a Gold with Delta Reserve get upgraded over a Platinum?

Is a Y fare always upgraded over all others regardless of status?

As far as I know fare class trumps all so a GM with Y beats a PM with L, two with the same fare class then the Delta Reserve card breaks the tie.

Ofcourse this is all conjecture and rumors because I don't know of a place on delta.com that explains the rules.

You really should search before starting a thread - there are numerous discussions on this with definitive answers.

Beyond that timestamp is the tie breaker within each section.

Debunking the "Reserve Myth"

I have spoken to DL reps several times, and they tell me that a reserve card holder only gets priority on tickets purchased with that reserve card

Just because you hold a reserve card, doesn't mean that you will get priority.

Is this accurate?

AFIK, this is the hiercarchy...

Once your reservation is ticketed, your upgrade will be cleared based on:

1.Your confirmation window
2. Availability
3. Fare class
4.Time of request

Confirmation Windows
Medallion Level Clearance Priority
All Medallions Time of ticketing for Y class fares
Platinum Medallion 5 calendar days in advance for B, M, H, Q, K, L, U, and T class fares2
Gold Medallion 3 calendar days in advance for B, M, H, Q, K, L, U, and T class fares2
Silver Medallion 1 calendar day in advance for B, M, H, Q, K, L, U, and T class fares2
2Clearance starts with B class and continues in descending order. If Medallion level and fare class are equal, time of ticketing will be the tie breaker.

WITH RESERVE CARD TRUMPING REG STATUS & FARE CLASS

Reserve only trumps within the same status level. A reserve also doesn't trump fare class. I.e. PM Reserve on a L fare is behind a PM non-reserve on a K fare.

Not in my experience.

You will not find an explicit "published" protocol for upgrades, but the information presented above by jfulcher is correct. That's about as "official" as you are going to get.

I was just kidding, but thanks!

Our white envelope recipients have been rather quiet lately. I wonder if the white envelope now includes a mandatory non-disclosure agreement!

Also on full Y, I don't think it matters what your status is. It goes off timestamp. I believe all full Y elites are the same priority and he who request first gets the upgrade.

This used to be the case but when they reworked the system with the UP2/UP3/UP4/UP5 they set it to sort by status and then timestamp for full Y. A GA explained that to me anyway so YMMV of course..
