Delta applies for Atlanta-Moscow (ATL-SVO) Service

Delta today applied to provide non-stop service between Atlanta and Moscow/SVO. Delta proposes to offer daily service between June and October; and 4x weekly service the rest of the year. It will start 1 June 2005 and operate with a 767-300ER.

"Delta Air Lines, Inc. ("Delta") hereby requests an allocation of seven (7) U.S.-Russia frequencies, and gives notice of its intent to rely on route integration authority, in order to offer daily nonstop service between Atlanta and Moscow beginning on June 1, 2005. Delta's proposed new service will dramatically increase nonstop-to-nonstop service for U.S.-Russia travelers and shippers, and will provide important benefits to Atlanta-Moscow local passengers.

Delta intends to operate Atlanta-Moscow service using Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft, equipped with 204 seats. The eastbound service will depart Atlanta at 15:55 and arrive Moscow at 10:25 (local time). Westbound, the flight departs Moscow at 12:25 and arrives Atlanta at 15:50. The service will operate on a daily between June and September, and four times weekly from October through April"

Well Delta could have put a 732 on the route and stopped in Rekjavik along the way.

In anticipation of and preparation for SUs entry into ST, I would think. I imagine this service will do quite well for them.

the 67ER is meant for international flights. Many of the flights with these a/c are in fact tags before/after international flights so I wouldn't be so sure that one is losing equipment on domestic due to this new route.

That's an early departure!! The earliest day flight to Europe from NY leaves at 4:25pm, I think.

If you have to connect to ATL, you basically lose an entire day travelling eastbound - and still don't arrive til 10:25am!

It's a 5380 mile flight - over 700 miles further than JFK-SVO.

I believe this will be Delta's longest transatlantic route if approved, beating out ATL-FCO by over 300 miles!

I flew on Czech Airlines (CSA), which is a SkyTeam member, from Newark to Prague.

I found their coach service to be quite good, and I used SkyMiles for an award ticket. However, you could also earn Delta Air Lines SkyMiles as well as Medallion Qualification Miles.

Out of curiosity, why would you want to fly Delta Air Lines to Prague?

When Dl applied for service to china recently the un-official delta helper asked us to send comments supporting the request, but not on this route. Is this route easier to get approval for?

I don't care whether it's DL or OK, I just wish there would be such a flight. It'd be soooo convenient. I often fly to KRK, which is in driving distance from PRG (250 miles?). It would mean no connections for me Of course, it'd be better if LO replaced their KRK-ORD with KRK-ATL and stepped out of *A and joined ST. Now I am dreaming
