Salt Lake City moves a step closer to airport rail line delta wants to pay zero

Initially, "the city thought it had a plan to fund its $35 million commitment for the light-rail line through airport improvement funds, but the Legislature stopped that in its tracks after Delta Air Lines officials balked,"

Clip was in USAtoday travel section. Good for Delta when it goes in!! Looks like a good investement for the state of utah since SLC looks like it will remain a key delta hub for the future. It will really help people who miss connections and need to overnight or just have some time to kill. I kind of agree I dont think that Delta should help pay for this rail line. Delta has given alot to SLC and it in return has also with skiing tourists, the olympics, and sundance etc etc. I think the rail line being funded by the state is only fair as delta would pay most of any "airport development costs".

With how successful TRAX has been in the SLC metro area, I'm sure that this route will again exceed all expectations. The airport is a natural next step and seems smart since it really is pretty close. It should be a priority before building other lines.

When the light rail will be completely around in between year of 2010 or beyond. How much longer when SLC county will begin constructed? Hopefully if they will expected to approved sometimes in the future. Its will be much easier who want ride on the light rail from airport to downtown instead of long ride by the cab, shuttle and private car, too. It will be very expensive who rode on the cab or shuttle, too.

The bus is $2 to downtown. Okay, sure, it won't take you everywhere, but there are so many connection options within the free fare zone that it's well worth the hassle if you have the time. The light rail will just make the transit easier, being every 15 minutes, instead of 30 or 60 minutes with the bus.

$2.35 http://www.rideuta.com/mc/?page=Ridi...YourFare-Fares
If you ask for a (free) transfer when you board the bus, then you can ride any bus route (except premium routes) and Trax for two hours.

The problem with riding the bus from the airport is that the buses used are not designed for people with luggage -- primarily the airport routes exist to get airport workers to and from their job. The Trax train cars that will be used are low floor, so there will be no steps to climb (unlike with the buses) and there will be lots of room for rollerboards.

Also, riding the bus requires exact change or a transit pass. With the Trax trains, you can buy a ticket from a vending machine with a credit/debit card. Or if you use cash, the machine will make change.
