Mileage/status run opportunity out of San Juan

For what it's worth, Delta says airfares are being capped to/from San Juan, which could create a very affordable mileage/status run opportunity if you were so inclined. Of course, you'll have to do a quick-turn because just about nothing is functioning in San Juan.

Here's the quote from a Delta press release that caught my eye:

Delta has extended a fare cap to and from San Juan on nonstop itineraries through Oct. 9 at $199 in the main cabin and $399 in First Class.

A fare cap is now also in place for connecting itineraries to any continental U.S. destination [emphasis added] through Oct. 9 at $299 for main cabin service and $499 for First Class.

It would be wrong to take seats from rescue/repair workers/volunteers going to San Juan or displaced residents and visitors trying to leave.

So? Leave the seats for people who have an actual need.

Good grief. This is pretty low.

It's so sad to see what has happened to Puerto Rico. San Juan has been my go-to destination for MQM runs for a while now. I can usually find $350-$400 fares from SFO which net me about 8000 MQMs. I have enjoyed spending a day or two on the beach and checking out old San Juan. I had been scheduled to do a run yesterday, but, of course, I canceled.

I hope the island begins to recover soon. I wonder if it would make any sense to schedule a trip in a month or so... Otherwise, I need to find another good destination for an MQM run from SFO.

Yeah, I'm in favor of locking this one up.

Is there no common sense anymore?

I wish I could. I just canceled several trips due to "circumstances". I should be in Buenos Aires right now. I had a discounted mileage J ticket for 105K miles bought during the mileage special a while back, but I redeposited it last week. Just couldn't go.

That said, I don't do pure mileage runs. If I fly somewhere, I only go places I really want to go to, and, I always stay at least a few days.

Yes, go sign up with Red Cross, Samaritan's Purse, and humanitarian aid groups for a day to volunteer. I know Samaritan's Purse takes 1 day volunteers.

Are the flights THAT full out of there with people trying to get out, that it would be taking seats away from people who are desperate? Just curious.
