That's more or less the strategy. I do earn more than 200K per year and a lot of that is in D1. So far this year, I've been to/through NRT(3x), PEK, SIN, DEL(2X), PVG, TPE, LHR, CDG, AMS, MUC, VIE, TXL all in D1. Next year, I expect to do HKG, TPE, SYD, MXP, HNL, BOM, DUB and more all in D1/F. I also have the Reserve AMEX that loads me up with more MQMs buying all those D1 tickets. Once I fully retire, I hope to have 3-4 years of Diamond status to enjoy when traveling for PLEASURE before falling back to ANNUAL COMPLEMENTARY PLATINUM.

OK, actually, just for the remainder of the year. My next flight will be January 15th 2017, I will have just over a month at home.
Tally for 2016: 103.871 MQMs, plus 20.000 MQMs courtesy of the DL Plat Amex card, so just shy of Diamond (by design, I don't expect to fly as much next year but wanted to hit at least Platinum in 2017 so I maximized the rollover as best I could without going over, thus no last minute mileage run to get over the hump).
Besides all those miles and segments on DL, I had about 5100 EQMs on AA over five segments in September.
Not nearly as much as some of the road warriors here, but many of my friends and family think I'm nuts for flying so much.
Airports visited, in no particular order (including home base), obviously some of them multiple times:

Yep.
1) CVG Skyclub is really good sized
2) Rarely crowded(which is a shame because, as many threads have detailed, CVG used to be quite the bee hive of activity)
3) One of my Favorites.
4) Has a really chatty older gentleman bar tender who pours a drink so strong that it actually walks over to you. Good for him!

I have 1 more trip this year and it's a short one ATL-RDU in 2 weeks.
i will finish at:
112,000 or so MQM
58 MQS
3 trips to NRT and 1 to OGG helped a lot.
This is my first year with this job and never thought i would get to this level. I hope i can stay at this level for a few more years.
Next year I will have a few more trip to other countries that will help get me to DM with this years rollover.

15k to 125k in one go? WHOA! Increasing mileage steeply like that can have deleterious effects - gotta train for these things!
