NYC to Mexico platinum baggage allowance

Travelling JFK to mex with dl plat.

Just tried to argue that they're entitled to two bags up to 70lbs.

Computer wanted to charge a fee

In the end they waived it after I showed them the baggage allowance page.

But was I wrong?

Agent claimed there was an "exception" that only allowed 50lbs on that routing!

Were flying F or Y? I'll assume Y since F baggage is usually straightforward.

I think they were right based on the Delta checked baggage page I pulled up just now
http://www.delta.com/content/www/en_...p/checked.html

Standard for Y US > MEX is
1st bag up to 50lbs - $25
2nd bag up to 50lbs - $40

Diamond/Plat Exceptions for Y US > MEX is
1st and 2nd bags free up to 50lbs (blue suitcase)
where blue suitcase is defined as
50 lbs (23 kg)
62 inches (157 cm) when you total length+width+height

Good job arguing that one.

Ha! So she was right!

Anyway, seems I persuaded / confused her enough that I fit it in without a problem.

The agent was correct.

Two bags are allowed, but they are limited to 50 pounds. Theres a year round embargo on flights to MEX. Limits ALL passengers to no more then two bags and overweight fees statt at 50 pounds.

Sorry but there's some destination that require limits. Most year round are the same at all airlines.

Was the flight operated by DL or AM? We're assuming DL here, but AM would have their own baggage rules (with PM nevertheless getting a more generous free bag allowance than kettles).

Also, if you were traveling on the same PNR as a PM, you would have been eligible for a more generous baggage allowance too IIRC.

Yeah, but two passengers each with one overweight bag might cost less than one with two overweight bags.
