Delta to offer GPS pet crate tracking while on the ground

Emphasis on the crate*, while on the ground**, and of course all for $50***.

http://www.sltrib.com/home/2353286-1...ker-on-flights

*should be on the animal

**in the air data is recorded but is not transmitted.

***for as limited as it will be, the "tracking" should be part of the shipping cost.

That is a ripoff considering what they already charge for shipping... and yes it should be on the animal. Most of the stories I've read where pet transit goes wrong are about the cage showing up mysteriously empty.

if the linked article wasn't actually published yesterday (3.31) I might have thought this was an April Fool's prank ...

Did anyone ever hear if they found that show dog that got loose after the Westminster show in NYC.

GPS on the dog might have kept the story out of the news.

There also was a case where a van with three show dogs in it was stolen in the DTW area and the dogs showed up a good thirty miles away a day or two later.

I agree with the comments about tracking the dog rather than the crate, but I don't see the point of tracking it in the air unless you're worried about a cargo door opening during flight and the animal falling to the ground.
