New SkyMiles Program: 30,000 points = $300 off ticket??

FA hawking Amex tonight, "Receive 30,000 bonus points, which is good for $300 off a future ticket."

Sounded like she was reading off a script. Is this an insight into how the future SkyMiles program will work, i.e., miles redeemable for dollars off a flight?

Sounds like Pay-With-Miles, which has been around for a while for those with DL AmEx cards.

This.

Though it's interesting that the Amex hawkers are now using this line instead of the "enough for a free domestic RT ticket" schpiel we've become accustomed to.

I'm guessing by 2016, 90% the true mileage awards will be at tier 5 to encourage people to just do PWM for any redemptions.

Mileage tickets aren't free, there are taxes to be paid in cash. Somebody might have complained.

Actually the more likely and more reasonable complaint was that the number of bonus miles awarded was not actually "enough for a free domestic ticket" due to non-availability.

This. Only enough for the saver awards, which I'm convinced you can only use to fly to the middle of nowhere, and then they are only available in the middle of winter.

Maybe the hawkers or their handlers are getting concerned about potential fraud complaints if low award tickets aren't actually available.

The 2015 program is basically like getting a % of your ticket back for future travel on Delta. So if you buy a $1,000 ticket, you get credit towards another ticket if you choose the pay-with-miles option.

GA - 5% ($50)
FO- 7% ($70)
GM - 8% ($80)
PM - 9% ($90)
DM - 11% ($110)

It's actually not that generous, as I think the RDM calc excludes taxes and fees, which can be about 50% of total ticket cost for intl flights

Other than perhaps a ridiculously cheap intl fare, intl flights will not have any where near 50% government taxes/fees. For the 2 millionth time, YQ/YR airline fees DO count toward MQD's. The UK is likely the worst case with about $250 in government fees on a roundtrip economy fare from the US (roughly $180 comes from the UK). So you'd need to be flying a $500 ticket (total price) in order to see only a 50% MQD earnings rate.
