Can't you guys believe this? He gave up the First class seat. Because he is fake Marine. He does not served for military. He was impersonally. he had no experience at all. He gave up the First Class seat on Delta flight.

Now now, we don't know the Marine was fake, it's just speculation at this point.

Should the "Marine" get the additional miles for flying first?

From the photo, it sppears that the person is not a Marine, at least not one who has received such medals. It's the wrong uniform for travel (wearing the actual full-sized medals); the order of medals isn't right; he is wearing his cover indoors; and he would not be carrying his gloves with that uniform. It seems suspicious. I would assume DL has complete information on the traveller. Wonder if he used an active duty ID to get through TSA checkpoints? I really hope this isn't a case of "stolen valor". The Federal courts have ruled that stolen valor only applies to situations in which something of value was received due to the deception; would an flight upgrade from a fellow passenger fall into that category?

SCOTUS ruled a few years ago that it isn't a criminal act.

Some other sites are reporting he is a veteran and may not be in a mental state to know what the "rules" are supposed to be.

He should have added the CMH for good measure.

Can you even buy a Medal of Honor? Wasn't the case which resulted in the court decision that it isn't criminal from a California politician who claimed to have the MoH? IIRC, there has been a later Stolen Valor law passed which limits cases to those in which something of value was received. After looking again at the "Marine's" picture, I suspect there might be a mental problem here. Isn't there also a law (criminal) for impersonating a member of the military?

I've never been impressed with people who advertise their own good deeds, and that goes for celebrities like Mr Williams or random Flyertalkers. Much better to simply do good deeds and not seek attention or notoriety for them. Every few months, someone will post about how impressive they are because they gave away their upgrade to a soldier as if they're the first person to ever do something nice for a member of our armed services. Patting oneself on the back is never attractive.

2013 act was passed in response to US v. Alvarez decision.
