Says who? If you have access to per flight cargo revenue, I'm happy to see it. Sure, the foreign flights probably see more, but to make up for even 10% underperformance on a passenger route would consume around 2-3% of DL's freight revenue. If we completely ignore the passengers (as you suggest) that share could rise.

Out of curiosity, what sort of freight do you propose would be shipped via air freight to and from MNL or PEK or wherever? Remember that each is a separate market and one of the primary challenges in the freight industry are one way volume flows.

yes, the 744 does NRT-ATL which is longer than SEA-HKG, but I can't imagine seeing the 744 on this route.

Wasn't it used to be 8,357 miles.

Maximum range for 747-400 is 7,260 nm, http://www.boeing.com/boeing/commerc..._400_prod.page
It appears that DL website is listed nautical miles for their 74S.

So, if SEA-HKG were to be launched, I'm assuming it won't be neither the 76L nor the 76T for sure. With the fact SEA-PVG is going to an A332 in the near future, one airframe can switch off between such routes, but question is will it have enough range even if the aircraft is fully loaded?

I don't know for sure, but given that the A332 flew DTW-HND, which is only 79 nm shorter than SEA-HKG, I think we could possibly see the Airbus on that route if/when it starts, at least during the summer months. In the winter it'd likely have to be a 777 due to stronger headwinds.

It is not imminent, but DL entering the market could change that.
I thought I had read recently that CX was about to add HKG-EWR.

Perhaps you saw the CX FB post with the contest to guess their next US destination complete with photos of Miami, Boston, Seattle and Newark.

...still waiting to hear anything from DL about HKG, or I may just have to put SC agent and SC bartender in the "unreliable" category for information on future routes.

Now that this is confirmed they have it listed as an A332 starting in June 2014. Delta's page says max range on an A332 is 6,536. Great Circle mapper has this distance listed at 6,500 and Webflyer has it at 6470. Seems like a pretty tight window there.

Agreed. I won't be surprised if they block seats westbound or put a 777 on the route in the winter.

I checked the YVR-HKG flights that AC and CX run and they both use 777s.

Yes, though CX 77W is more comfortable than AC 77P in all classes of service.
(well, in J and Y+ better catering helps as well.)
