Weird DL UP fares

I have been looking at some fares earlier this week and stumbled across some weird UP fares on Delta.com. Some of the fare rules are rather odd to say the least. Does anyone have any insight? Is this a new Delta thing to sell F seats?

The OP wrote the first post in this thread and included a cut/paste of a fare rule. The OP highlighted in bold text referring to a surcharge for JFK-SFO/LAX flights that applies only when such flights are operated by A330 or B777 aircraft. JFK-SFO/LAX are not currently operated with such aircraft, so one inference is that the OP's point was that this surcharge text is interesting (in the OP's words, "Wierd").

yeah, sorry, I tried to wrap it into quotes, but then the bolding went away.

Correct: A330/B777 surcharges as well a $20 fee per connection. Never seen this before in fare rules. Also a very strange base fare class with ticket designator

OK. Let me tell you what I read in that post that concerns me:

PASSENGERS HOLDING CONFIRMED RESERVATIONS AND

STOPOVER POINTS FOR A NON-REFUNDABLE FEE OF

IMPOSED ITINERARY BASED FEES. NEW ITINERARY
MAY NOT BE CONFIRMED MORE THAN 3 HOURS PRIOR

I'm not sure what they mean by that. In the past, UP fares such as the A fare let you SDC as long as there was any seat in the cabin you originally booked into. It was not limited to the fare you purchased. Does this mean if your A fare is B-UP, there must be an A fare with B-up available?

Granted, it's been some time since I've had to SDC on an A fare, but when I did, the original booking class was not an issue except with one misinformed agent, but I got it sorted out after some cajoling.

And right now UP fares appear to credit as coach fares with no bonus as well ... I wouldn't be surprised if they put you back in coach in case of SDC.

I've found one of these UP fare connections via Kayak.com. But how do you book them on Delta.com? I'm struggling with searching/booking the combination I've found. My out bound is MSP-SLC-OAK, and the return is OAK-LAX-MSP. It's the LAX-MSP segment that has the WNUP.

Called Delta reservations and they were able to book it. And they waived the call an agent fee. :-)
