Shortest Scheduled Flight on a Big Bird

Looking around Delta.com and found DL Flight 7932, LAS – ICN with a stop in LAX on a Korean Air 747-400. The LAS-LAX leg is 235 miles. I would think it would take longer to load and unload the passengers than actual flight time.

Does anyone have experience with a wide-body on a really short flight? What is Delta’s shortest flight on the big birds? (767 and up)

767s/777s on ATL-MCO/TPA were fairly common a few years ago. It is a little over 400 miles. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that is shorter with the same equipment.

Not DL (neither is KE), but I've flown TWA L-1011s PHL-JFK (IIRC, 90 miles, cruising at 5,000 to 7,000 feet typically) and SFO-OAK (10 minute scheduled flight that seemed to almost hover over the little waves in the bay).

ATL-JAX was quite common on the 767-300 as well until Delta pulled pretty much all 767s off of Florida flying (270 miles).

DL repositions a 777 daily from DTW. It's a skd flight, but mainly for repositioning for international flights.

Pan Am used to fly a 747 nonstop from JFK to EZE (almost 5300 miles) and on from there to MVD (142 miles). The aircraft stayed in MVD most of the day and flew back the same way in the evening.

I flew a few times on Korean Air ICN-PUS which is 235 miles and operated with a 747- it was quite fun actually.

I recall back a number of years ago DL flew 767's between PDX and SLC. Also, many years back, in the 70's, NW flew a 747 SEA-PDX-HNL. I was on the SEA-PDX leg.

TWA used to have the L-1011 fly LAX-SAN and back, as a dogleg to a JFK route. But you could buy the LAX-SAN portion separately.

Are all of those short domestic flights in Japan still operated by 747s?

Unfortunately, things seem to be trending the other way: aka, looooong flights on narrow body aircraft. Still glad I've never flown a 752 across an ocean...

AA used to fly DC-10s AUS-DFW. 183 miles... Every so often there would be a 767 that would show up for the IAH-EFD run on CO back when the had it... That couldn't be more than 20 miles.

The longest scheduled short flight in big bords is probably the Tokyo Osaka 747 service. it was about 540 Y seats.

hmm, even though its a code share, DL 7932 doesn't come up on the schedule and you can't book it?

Looks like this flight runs on MWF. Looked to be bookable.
