Talking New Delta Customer, Few Carry On Questions

Hello!!!

I am flying Delta for the first time next week had a few questions for you pro's.

First, i know the max carry on size is a combined 45"
I need to bring a garment bag for my suite so it comes out to 50"
do you think i will be ok with the extra 5"
or will they make me check it?

and on top of that i wanted to bring a small duffel bag

do you think i can bring a small duffel bag along with my garment bag?

THANKS!!

I think you answered your own question.....
50" is greater than 45", so therefore your garment bag should be checked. You might get away with it, but if you are forced to gate check you have no reason to complain.
You are limited to one carry on and one personal item, sounds like your duffel bag probably does not qualify as a personal item.

53Flyer response is spot-on. Why are you trying to bend the rules? You could always go out and purchase a garment bag that's under 45" and pack the items of your duffle bag into a small backpack or laptop bag. Otherwise, check the bags.

it likely won't be an issue...

As much as I agree with the other posters and feel that the rules are the rules, you should be fine.

The only time I've seen people have issues was with the JFK "Bag Nazi's" patrolling the security check points. Living in Florida, I see all sorts of things that are WAY too big to get on as carry-ons be allowed onto the plane ...

So, in short, you shouldn't have an issue ... BUT, if they do catch ya, you have no right to complain ...

I've seen many garment bags but again, don't bet the ranch on it..

On the duffle, what are the measurments? I've used a small duffle lots of times with no problems, but mine fits under the seat. That is usually the deciding factor. If it won't fit under the seat, you probably won't get away with it.

Welcome to FlyerTalk and the Delta Forums SixSix. Will your garment bag fold in half (then it is 25") and if so, will it damage the contents while you are waiting to board? You MAY be able to stow it in the closet, depending upon the FA, otherwise it will have to go in the overhead storage. Your duffel, depending upon how full you stuff it may fit under the seat in front of you. While air lines state you are allowed one carry-on and one personal item I have yet to see them enforce this rule on the flights I have flown. Good luck.

thank you everyone for your responses
i appreciate the help

the duffel i am talking about should fit under the seat

this is it right here

i just never leave home without it

i called delta regarding the issue of the 50" bag
the rep said i should be fine if i check in early
they will only make me check it if there's no more room in the overhead bin

also one more question, i know the 3oz rule and the TSA says on their website about razors, will my Gillette fusion razor be ok as a cary on or do i have to get one of those small old school kind

thank you, sorry for such basic questions, i am new to buisness travel, first ever buisness trip i usually just throw everything into the checked luggage and dont worry about it

No problem with the fusion razor. A straight razor OTOH might raise some eyebrows.

Welcome to FT.

Now if you are carrying a garment bag that is 1 carry on. If you are carrying the duffle, that is 1 carry on. A personal item is a purse or a laptop. You are allowed 1 personal item. Not both!

By the rules you can carry on the duffle without a problem. You might be able to carry on the garment, but don't take the duffle too. If you get away with this, DO NOT HAVE A purse or laptop bag as well!

Regardless, regular flyers are going to hate you for breaking the rules. Once in a while flyers don't have a clue!
