Passing of a Cruising Legend

Sad to share the passing of Mama Lou (aka Louise Meis) on August 26, 2016. Those of you who have cruised with Holland America, particularly in the Caribbean, may have come across this amazing and interesting lady. Mama Lou was a legend not only on Holland America but throughout the greater cruising population for living almost constantly on a cruise ship. Mama Lou spent the better part of 10 months a year at sea for 22 years. To say she was a character would be an understatement but she was incredibly popular with the Holland America crew with her little gifts and mothering. She was so connected with them that you always saw her dressed in a variety of crew uniforms from every level of the ship's crew from captain to room attendant. Rest in peace Mama Lou.
