Finding a new cards when limited options available?

Hey folks, churner that has been on break here.

You really should have a "specific goal". Don't apply just to apply. Even if it's a loosey-goosey goal. What would you like do in the next couple yrs? Where would you like to go? Do you need airline miles or hotel pts? Transferable pts (UR, CITI TY and MR) are the best according to many.

You say-" laying low for over a year with 0 applications and new cards" but you list 6 cards opened in the the last 7 months of 2016. I'm confused.

A couple thoughts which go together:

1. Do you want to get under 5/24 for Chase? There is a way: Apply only (or almost only) for business cards for a year or two. Business cards from Amex, BofA, Barclay, Citi, and US Bank (and Chase) don't appear on credit reports, and Chase evaluates 5/24 by checkiing your credit report for bank cards with an "opened on" date in the past 24 months, so (non-Chase) business cards that don't show up on your credit report are "invisible" to Chase and thus don't count toward 5/24.

2. These days many people are getting denied for an Alaska personal card if they have one open. However, having an Alaska personal card open doesn't keep you from getting approved for an Alaska business card. And with the Alaska business card you either get approved and get 30k or get denied, while with the personal card there's a horrible third option: getting approved only for the Platinum version and getting only 5k not 30k.

So if you want to get under 5/24 sometime, I suggest you go for Alaska business instead of personal, go for the Amex business cards, but consider skipping the "cashback" cards from BofA and US Bank.

Solid advice from sdsearch. I'm going to stick with Biz cards so I can get out from under the 5/24 Chase guillotine.
