50,000 after $3,000 spend:

Capital One usually does a hard pull with all three credit bureaus.
If you have a security freeze on your report, they generally will not allow you to submit a code for this report to be viewable.

If you've held this card before, it looks like you can get this bonus again. Data points: 1, 2. YMMV

You can downgrade to Venture One if you want to avoid the annual fee.

Short answer, no.

And Capital One does have cards with high credit score criteria out there.

Just another data point on this ...

I've held a CapitalOne Rewards card for several years now. It has a very high credit line. When the Venture Match Your Miles offer came out, I called in to ask about upgrading my card. The response was odd ... They said I could not upgrade (even though I have a perfect credit history with C1), but the agent and his supervisor both literally encouraged me to just apply for the Venture card. They both said that, based on my history with C1, they could not see any reason that my Venture card application would be denied.

They were correct. I now have two active CapitalOne cards.

How high is very? One person's "very high" limit might be totally inadequate for another.

I can't find much documentation on travel expenses that are reimbursed. Do airline change fees count?

Sure. It's actually more like $7900. Venture is essentially a 2% cashback card, and VentureOne is essentially a 1.25% cashback card.

Therefore, what you get back:

Venture: $7900 * .02 = $158 less $59 Annual Fee = $99
VentureOne: $7900 * .0125 = $98.75

So unless you spend more than $7900, you will actually make out better with the VentureOne.

Regarding the rewards for travel in the Venture card program, I know that you basically multiply by 100 to find out how many points you need to redeem for a travel award ($215 flight will cost 21,500 points).

But lets say you only have 20,000 points in your account. Can you apply all of those points towards the $215 flight (ie $200 towards the purchase)? I couldn't find the info doing a search. Thanks for your help.

No, but you have 90 days after your incurred travel charge to collect the needed points. Cap 1 will allow reimbursement for any expense on your statement that gets categorized as travel. I have used it for Priceline, timeshare vendors (RCI/II), hotels, cruises, and auto rentals.

Just to add - I was pleasantly surprised to know that Capital One's definition of travel expenses also includes taxis, so, this is a lower charge amount that you can redeem points for if you find yourself always being too short to redeem for larger travel purchases.

I tend to like to liquidate my points / miles / etc. ASAP because redemption programs can always change, but, I can see the counterargument that you'd rather accumulate many points so you can cover that large travel purchase in the future.

Using Capital One No Hassle Points

I have an old Capital One card I got years ago to charge things overseas. Used to be the only game in town for no fee FOREX transactions. But now it isn't (and I another card that does it). So I think it makes sense to drop the card. I have about 5k points left in the Capital One account. They're not worth much. Best I can tell - a $25 gift card from a place I use a lot is about it. Any better ideas? Robyn

One feature of the C1V card that I like is the ability to break a travel charge into parts based on the number of passengers it might cover (up to ten) and then choose to be reimbursed for the parts I choose. Yesterday I broke a $638 charge down into tenths and then chose to redeem points for $255.20 (40%) of the total.

I have three Cap1 cards -- venture rewards, venture with no annual fee and a third reward earning card. Have transferred points from the other 2 to the venture rewards one-for-one.
Actually just got a 4th cap1 card when my sony chase was converted.
Haven't used that one for years.
