Latest on Amtrak ZFV-EWR segments?

Looking at a ZFV-TYS via EWR and return.

What is the latest on traveling and checking in for the ZFV-EWR segment?

From what I see, we can no longer skip the ZFV-EWR segment.

Do we absolutely have to check in using the Amtrak machines in Philadelphia an hour or so before the train is scheduled to leave?

Anyway to check in a day earlier at another Amtrak station - say Trenton or Metropark? If so, I imagine hopping on at Trenton or Metropark would not be a problem.

I am not worried about the EWR-ZFV return.

The ultimate FAQ seems to be a little outdated.

I used to play with ZFV havent in yrs, if anything I would take it since no so called new info on the Master thread of ZFV that everything is just as it was,Ride it or be prepared to remain at EWR or if lucky enough to get out of EWR, be prepared for your return to be KOed.

BTW that means starting at ZFV and no other station along teh way, also getting the tkt out of the Machine as well.
