Third Annual Non-Denominational Kosher Hannuka Do

Two years ago we had the First Annual Non-Denominational Kosher Hannuka Do! This year we will have the Third Annual Non-Denominational Kosher Hannuka Do and it will be combined with Christmas Eve (but in the afternoon, not the evening).

Place: Ben's Kosher Deli, 209 W. 38th St, Manhattan (this is between Fashion Ave/aka 7th Ave and 8th Ave).

Time: 12:30 noon, Dec 24.

Of course, being Non-Denominational, it is open to people of all religions and those who have no religion at all.

This will be my final visit to NYC (or, for that matter, the US) so you will not have another opportunity to harass me in person unless you fly to Israel or Europe. Don't pass this up!

Definite:

You are now counted in. If we get three more people it will become an official Do.

1. Until a few years ago, I was able to make the TLV-JFK flight in Y. When I got to age 65 that started being a bit too rough and I flew in Biz Elite, which is considerably more expensive.

2. Most of the flights I took were Delta's "M" fares, upgraded with either SkyMiles or SWUs. I would earn enough SkyMiles to allow me to upgrade the following trip. Delta then lowered the amount of MQMs given for M fares while jumping the price for the M fares.

3. Delta made it increasingly difficult to find flights on which you could upgrade. This year, the only itinerary I could find was in December -- and that required me flying on Christmas Eve. It also did not take me to LAS, only to JFK with a return ATL-JFK-TLV. I did, however, manage to get it at the low award rate (140,000 SkyMiles) which basically emptied my account. I will be flying JFK-LAS-ATL on a paid itinerary in Y.

4. That means that future itineraries would cost me about $4500 in Biz. However, flying to Europe involves only short hops (3 to 5 hours) and I can handle that in Y, meaning the flights will cost me only $400-$600. It also means I won't be stuck in aluminum tubes for 12 hours each way. There are a lot of European cities I have visited in the past that I would like to return to and even more that I have never seen. I decided that all my future trips will be to Europe.

I suspect that lunch would be better for most people, so I will update the first post and make this an official Christmas Eve lunch Do (as awkward as that might sound).

I look forward to seeing you again, vasantn.

Definite maybe. Lunch better for me if we're weighing which works better for more. Look forward to seeing you again, Dovster.

I very much hope you can make it, travellingcari. I just put you on the "Possible" list, but when you know for sure please tell me, so we can make reservations for as many people as needed.

I'm tempted but that day is my Dad's birthday, I'll see what our plans for his special day are and if I can shoot up...I will.

I believe it is against the law in NYC to shoot up -- New York is not California!

I hope that both of you can make it, but keep an eye on CMK10 -- we don't need to have one of our FTers nabbed for possession on Christmas Eve.

(New Year's Eve, of course, is a different story completely.)

Don't worry, I'm a Flyertalker, I've got an insanity defense in the bag

Though having someone keep an eye on me is really good advice
