violist retirement concert July 4 Salem, Mass.

I'm hanging up the bow, it looks like, and my last concert will be a
fireworks and 1812 thing up in Salem (15-20 miles north of BOS).

Also a little recital designed so that those who have come long
distances for a silly big event won't be totally disappointed.

Saturday, July 3, 2010, 4 pm
A recital of short and agreeable works
violist, violin
Paul Madore, piano
Cleveland Room, First Church in Salem
316 Essex St., Salem MA

Chinese dinner after the recital at Royal East, 782 Main St., Cambridge
at 7:15 - RSVP for this item alone by PM or e-mail; deadline 6/20.

Sunday, July 4, 2010, 7 pm
Hillyer Festival Orchestra
Derby Wharf, Derby St. at Salem Maritime National Historic Site, Salem MA

This being a heads-up for those who have fussed about never having
heard me play.

There's a party at the Salem Beer Works after the concert (10 pm or so).
Staggering distance from the concert. Go to Derby St. and turn left. Go a couple
blocks - it's on the right, more or less opposite the parking garage. Go to the
host station and turn left.

Public transport options: train schedule; bus schedules: 450 and 455/459.
Taxi from places like the marriott
. I understand that the choices are suboptimal,
but hey, we're in the land of the automobile and the brave.

thinking about it ... July 4 is not a particularly good day for us, since we are usually with friends ... we'll see.

Are there any rail options to get to Salem from Boston?

Funny, I was just telling a friend yesterday that I need to get back to the North Shore & this just may be the incentive I need

Plus, it's been waaaay too long since I've done the whole July 4th & fireworks thing and I can't think of a better reason than your retirement to celebrate ^

Oh and a side trip to Singing Beach sounds very pleasant on this snowy eve.

I'll have a look at hotels and award tickets when I get home from Germany next week. Hopefully it will all fall into place.

Michael,

I would so love to be there. But I am flying to Germany on 7/7/ from here and have award tix in place. I can assure you I am going to be one the East Coast at some point this fall and would love to make it up to you and celebrate as we break bread once again.
