Just received the following offer in my email:
As a cardmember, you'll benefit from: * One time $100 statement credit for the first eligible American Airlines purchase made within 12 months of cardmembership * Earn 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after $3,000 in purchases within the first 4 months of cardmembership — enough for two domestic round-trip flight awards * Receive One Companion Certificate after you become a cardmember. Use your Citi® / AAdvantage® card to purchase a domestic roundtrip coach fare on American Airlines and two fly for the price of one — no minimum fare restrictions apply * Two AAdvantage® miles for every $1 you spend on eligible American Airlines purchases and one mile per $1 spent on other purchases for the first 12 months of cardmembership. After the first 12 months, continue to earn one mile per $1 spent on purchases * $0 annual fee for the first 12 months, then $85 ($75 for the CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® Visa® card) per year thereafter Offer expires December 31st and has typical "first time Citi Cardholders" exclusion. This looks good if you can spend $3k in 4 months and $100 + companion certificate is worth 25,000 points (comparing making 75,000 points on the other cards to the 50,000 points on this card).
How much would you guys rate 25,000 points to be? saacman5033, are you a current Citi AAdvantage card holder? do you know how you got targeted for this offer? |
I got it too...
|
I got a scaled down offer.
- No $100 off - 40K after 2000 spent in 4 months rest same. |

I value my points on the order of $0.015 ea so say $375 for 25k. This deal looks especially intriguing for residents of Hawaii and Alaska as the companion cert will be more valuable. I am a current citi business card holder but have not been a personal cardholder since I cancelled my last 2 last month. |
I got the American Business Visa Offer until 10/31
$50 statement credit No Annual Fee 40K for $1000 in 4 months 10K additional for spending 5K in 6 months. I got turned down last year on the 75K offer as they said I was a previous cardholder, I'm going to try again next month as I'm not sure if I ever had a AA Business Visa . |

For someone who uses AA miles for domestic coach awards, I'd say this offer looks superior to the 75k offers. The companion cert is comparable to the extra 25k in that case and the $100 makes the difference.

Thanks for the answer! I wonder if I can use your links and hope to get the business card. Couldn't one use the companion certificate and fly to Hawaii making it the same value as one who lives there?
As for the companion cert, I interpret their use of "domestic" to mean only within the lower 48, especially since they make special mention to Alaska and Hawaii. |
I'd be very skeptical about the companion cert, until all the details are revealed.
(3) Companion Certificate: This Citi® / AAdvantage® card offer is valid only for first-time Citi® / AAdvantage® cardmembers who apply pursuant to this offer for an account by December 31, 2011. Companion certificate expires 6 months after the issue date. Passenger is responsible for taxes, fees and charges in association with use of companion certificate. Your companion offer arrives in the form of a certificate 8-10 weeks after account approval; details, terms and conditions, certain restrictions, and restricted dates apply and will be disclosed on the certificate. Your discount code must be redeemed in conjunction with domestic travel purchased on your Citi® / AAdvantage® card. Travel must be booked and purchased in economy inventory. The companion offer will be fulfilled as a 50% discount off each passenger's travel. For residents of Alaska and Hawaii, the companion certificate is valid for round-trip travel originating in either of those two states and continuing to the 48 contiguous United States. |
At least in the OP's email, he wrote:

Wonder if Hawaii counts as domestic? ;) |

In the past, the conditions on similar companion certs have made them close to worthless. For example, they may require more expensive booking classes (H V M L K or W) that mean that two cheaper class tickets end up being about the same price. |
never mind. 50K bonus.

I would think that using these links would be no different than the links in the 75k thread. I would still refer to the excellent guide maintained by jcmitchell21 in that thread if applying for one (or more) of these offers.

The note in the email said no minimum fare restrictions apply but I am still a bit skeptical as well. I'm expecting to make my next set of applications in the second week of OCT so I'll be trying to get AA to give me a disclosure of the companion cert terms by then.
Here's a T&C from a 2010 version of the cert: http://www.aa.com/content/images/eSu..._V06_Legal.htm Travel must be booked in H V M L K or W inventory with a minimum fare of $299 per passenger. |

Yeah, but there's a difference between "no minimum fare" and "no class restrictions".
Here's a T&C from a 2010 version of the cert: http://www.aa.com/content/images/eSu..._V06_Legal.htm If they've just dropped the fare restriction, you still have cases where, for example, the cheapest fare is an S or Q fare at $198 roundtrip, and the cheapest HVMLKW fare is $459. I have opened dialogue with AA on this and will report back when I get more details. |

Yes, the links are from the email offer I received. Same thing goes for the links in the 75k thread (though the links there did not come from me), they are links originally targeted through email. This is the reason there is no landing page for these offers as the email serves as the landing page.
|
Another possibility. I received this link via snail mail sometime during the past 3 weeks while I was away. Not sure if it’s targeted.

Here is a link for 50K miles with $2,500 spend in 4 months for Visa, Amex, Biz. This came from Million Mile Secrets. What a great blog. |
I Would like to know if somebody has used the link mentioned in Post #1, (without receiving himself the offer), applied for any of the cards (I am interested in the business card) and received the miles and other benefits. Since the 75,000 miles link is now dead, this is the best offer I've seen. Please let me know if any have success with this link.

Agreed, unless you were still shooting for million miler status. |
So if I already applied for the 75k offer with a Visa, is there any chance of me applying for the American Express offer with this link and getting the bonus 50k?

It depends on when you applied for that Visa. For this offer I would say all general advice in jcmitchell21's famous "Post #2" would apply.

Anyway, just got back from a long trip and was hoping to apply for one of this offer and one of the 75k but I will instead be applying for two of these tomorrow.
|
Here's one that looks open to everyone:
http://www.aa.com/i18n/AAdvantage/ea...t/citiVisa.jsp 40K points (30K @ $750 spend in 4 months 10K more @ $5K spend in 6 months) $100 statement credit 2X points earned @ AA |
I received (via snail mail) an interesting variation on the offers the others posted earlier:
Citi Gold AAdvantage Visa Signature 1.) 35,000 AAdvantage miles after $1,000 spend in 4 months 2.) 10,000 AAdvantage miles upon renewing card at 1-yr. anniversary 3.) 3x miles on all American Airlines purchases for 12 months 4.) 2 One-Day AC Passes 5.) One-Time $100 statement credit on the first American Airlines purchase 6.) Waived $50 annual fee for first year Seems targeted, but I'll try to find if this is available online. |
Has anyone applied for the original links in this thread, to see if they are targeted or not?
50K miles, $100 credit, and a companion ticket makes a pretty good deal for a $3K spend. I missed out on the Business card under the 75K offers. I was going to pull the trigger on this one if we can get confirmation that somebody has been successful with it. |
I just applied for the business card. I didn't get an instant approval, so I'll have to update later. I got one of the personal 75K cards in May, and have a legit tiny, but established, sole proprietorship.
|
Lots of good info in this thread, especially the link to Million Mile Secrets - great blog. Thanks to all.
Did the double browser trick for my gf (50k x 2), she was instantly approved for both. However, I was eventually denied due to "too many recent inquiries". Within the last few weeks: Chase Sapphire 50k: approved US Airways 40k: approved AMEX SPG : declined, need to call *also financed a new car, so that was 1-2 hits I called the Citi reconsideration line (Philippines, I'm guessing..) and responded by saying I use this cards mostly for business and will start to fly AA more for business (both true). Still a no go. Obviously I'm calling separately for both the Visa and AMEX, but I'm wondering if I should keep calling or just wait a couple of months to try again if the deal is still around? I hear Citi is tough for reconsideration. I have no cards with Citi yet aproxx. 22K in lines at Chase....give me something, Citi! |

Got approved, and I just now I applied for this card using this link, but I didn't get an instant approval. I called 1-866-606-2961, and they said since I already have 5 credit cards with Citi and have reached the maximum credit limit per user, they could only approve this application with a starting limit of just $1k. I asked to shift some of the credit from my personal accounts over, and the rep said he can't do that since the business line is separated. But I was just happy that I got approved for a business card without having to provide any additional information about my sole proprietorship. |

Worse, it's turning out to be a colossal struggle to get the miles I was promised. First, I'm supposed to get double miles for AA flight purchases--nope, nothing. I ordered stuff I didn't need from Nordstrom's just for fun since they were offering 10mi/$ and the stuff arrived quickly but no miles. I contacted Nordstroms and they said they'd investigate but nothing came of it. Sure, I can keep pursuing it but the cost per mile is adding up since time isn't free. Meanwhile, I achieved the $2500 required spend for the 50K bonus on this card seven weeks ago and have yet to see any sign that the miles might be forthcoming. The fine print does read '8 to 10 weeks' on that so who knows. But I was also supposed to get two Admirals Club passes and never did. In fact, all I've gotten on this AA card in nearly three months is the normal one mile per dollar charged. Exception: Overstock.com did come through with the mileage bonus they promised, almost instantly, and kept me apprised by email of the progress ^ Now I'm contemplating a $31K charge for a cruise and would love to get a mileage bonus from someone for it. I previously had a Chase Visa so that's out. If any of you mileage mavens can tell me what I'm doing wrong, or point me to a productive source of help at AA, I'd greatly appreciate it! |

$2,500 spending requirement within 4 months isn't too bad though. Marsen, I was also denied of a second personal card back in July, even though I applied for both the Visa and Amex on the same day, within a few hours of each application however. |
Thanks for responding. But you have (or had) six cards in all, right? That's way ahead of me! They'll only let me have the one. And the bigger problem is getting miles credited. I've stopped using the card--what's the point, if they're not going to credit the miles I've earned?
Who knows, maybe they will in a couple more months, but imho the business model is faulty. Crediting the miles properly would be a more powerful impetus toward continued use of the card on the part of customers. Then Citibank would make more money. I don't discount or dismiss the successful reports from many other contributors here, but I will say that mileage varies http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i2...ile_tongue.gif |
I've got 4 cards here, but the 4th was difficult to get with me having to move around credit lines from the Amex/visa to the world elite.
