Earlier this month, TSA did a gate check for one of my domestic flights. They had a table set up in the area of the podium to hand search carry on too, but only asked for my photo ID and boarding pass.

How? How does it make us any safer after having gone through an ID check at screening? And, even if we assume someone escaped that first ID check... how does checking ID in the first place make us any safer?

To quote a famous episode of The Twilight Zone, "repeat after me, it's only a dream, it's only a dream!"

This is not a DL specific topic so I am moving this thread over to the Checkpoints and Borders Policy Debate forum.

That's a right you have that hasn't been taken away.

Besides, you still haven't answered the pertinent question posed, "How does checking id a second time at the gate make anybody any safer if people have already been screened for WEI?"

You do realize, thanks to their VIPR squads, there is no escaping them on buses, trains, subways, football stadiums, highways, & even political rallies now?

Seems as if some of you should stay at home 24-7 and never go anywhere.

Appreciate America and what we have here.

Well, once again, since you've been asked & not answered (is your name Ron, btw?)-what is it you think the TSA, w/all their security theater, is doing that 'keeps you safe'?

You seem to be missing the point that most people here recognize nothing the TSA does is truly effective at 'keeping us safe'

I don't think they have the resources to do this.
With airplanes they can hide behind 911 hysteria
but I don't envision them saturating highways,
bus depots and football stadiums with Blue Meanies.
I also wonder if 1776 would commence, to quote Alex Jones, if they did.

The best way to appreciate America is to advocate for continuous improvement, and that includes advocating for the end of the wasteful dog and pony show performed by the TSA in the name of "security". These kinds of advocates for improvements should not stay home 24-7 and never go anywhere -- rather they should be empowered to make for a "more perfect Union".

I served 15 years defending this country and the rights that it used to represent, only to see cowards turn around and give up those rights.

Enough courage to answer the question?

"How does checking id a second time at the gate make anybody any safer if people have already been screened for WEI?"
