Any TSA Sightings in Cleveland?
Curious if anyone has seen any evidence of TSA mission creep at the Cleveland convention so far? Neffy promises lots of harassment thnroughout the city and long lines at all the airports from where he's borrowed clerks.

Oh, fer the love of Pete ...
TSA belongs to DHS. DHS calls TSA and says "We're the boss, get a bunch of people to Cleveland for the RNC ... no, it doesn't matter that there are no airplanes at the RNC, y'all are working for DHS now."
Don't blame TSA for following the directives given to it by DHS. Blame DHS.
(Besides, there are plenty of other things that we can blame TSA for. )

And not just transportation of people. Now it is oil and natural gas...

TSA also conducts Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) operations at pipeline facilities.
Maybe the VIPR team should raid the "terrorist" offices of PG&E.

They stand with NYPD at entrances with handheld explosive detectors to do a "Bag Check". A lot more NYPD bag checks without TSA but sometime they are there with two TSA Agents.

TSA was working with the Secret Service at the security checkpoints for the Q Arena. I was very happy on how well it was. They had multiple lines. One for people with nothing to screen, one for people with cases/backpacks and them one for camera crews. The lines were quick.

Does TSA have statutory authority to prevent a person from using these other forms of transportation if you refuse to let the TSA person check your stuff?

The very short answer is "in general, no." But.....
...in reality, the answer might very well be "maybe." However unlikely it might be, it depends upon a laundry list of pertinent facts. There are many ways to skin a cat and government at numerous levels can use a variety of tactics to prevent someone from using certain modes of transportation (for a short period at least). And depending upon the judge, one can be prevented from using certain modes of transportation for quite a long time while the liars - , er, lawyers, figure it all out.

There have been reports of people simply refusing, leaving, and entering the same station through another entrance. They can't stop you from walking a few blocks to the next station.

Now how legal that is.... who knows. I just use another entrance, same stop but no inspection present.
