My official passport is in my filing cabinet, along with my other travel documents, but I am OCONUS. The official passport only allows me to re-enter the country of my duty station; if I want to go elsewhere on vacation, I have to use my personal passport (in which I also had placed my residency permit). However, some agencies do require that the official passport be held by one's boss.

Tell that to the folks I know who travel under one. I've seen it sitting on their desks at home plenty of times.
